instead of buying another bus... i found a mci8 that need an engine, i decided to get after some of my other projects and finish something!!!..so i'm gonna work on my boat!!!...i need a plasma cutter...ive found a miller 375 and a thermaldynamics 38... both are 220volt... have very similar "torches"... very similar specs as far as cutting capabilities....the miller cost about $100 more....both have the 3yr mfg warranty.. consumables seem a little cheaper for thermaldynamics.... anybody got a recommendation???? |

Yeah, a couple of weeks ago I finally broke down and bought a new TV. We set our budget at $400, but we found one we really liked for $515. I've long since forgotten about the $115. I have beat my Miller MIG to death, left it in the rain, etc, etc.... It should have given up on me a long time ago, but it keeps on tickin. Gary |

Between those two, go for the Miller. If Hypertherm is available in your area, you should check it out. I found this to be a better value than the Miller. However, if your suppliers don't have support, anything else but Miller is junk. I love my plasma cutter, don't know how I lived without it. Jim |

Five Stars for the Hypotherm too. Our Miller shop also carries it. Great machine, it was recommended by some very experienced metal workers, some who build those old front engined fuel dragsters. That was good enough for me. Peter. |

Hypotherm is what I have, the 600 model, a lot of other units use the Hypotherm torch, I think the newer miller does. |

on the plasma...don't get one too small...should cut 3/8"...everybody I know said "well I'm just going to use it on sheet metal"....a year later...they say they wish they had got a bigger one... |

Jim-- the thing with plasma cutters no matter what you buy is keep your air dry. Moisture in the air will consume your consumables at a quicker rate. By the way, I bought the thermal dynamics pacmaster XL38. Good machine but if i bought again i would buy the miller. The cord is rather flimsy on the pacmaster so i ended up covering it with a leather cover which makes it clumsy. Still works great and is my favorite tool in the garage. Steve |

Jim I left out one thing --My machine can be run on 110 or 220 with the flip of a switch and an adapter plug. Nice feature! Of course the capacity in 110 is less though. Steve |

Jim, We looked at both the Miller and The Thermal Dynamics units. Actually most good shops that sell both units will tell you that the Thermal Dynamics is way out in front as far as technology. We purchased the model 51 and are very happy with it. It will cut up to 1/2" and do 3/4" severe cut. Later, Cedric |

i'm buying the thermal dynamics... its $140 cheaper... the miller dealer recommended it... consumables are half-price to the miller... and thermal makes the stinger for the miller... |
