I bought a 8KW /w a 3 cyl. Kabota /w same hours...no slideout and no remote start for 5K Canadian....so around 3,800 USD. I plan to get a PLC for the remote start (signal from inverter)(150.00 CND) Kabota wanted 2k for their remote start. And I built a 800lbs double slide-out for $100)

I bought it at shop where they build and rent generators, they only keep them in the rental fleet for so long then rebuilt it and sell it.

Powertech makes good gensets. But in this case, I would guess it didn't come from an RV. Most RV's put 100 hrs per year on the generator and this would amount to 30 years of use. I also think this is almost what you could buy a new one for.

Also consider that a bus at 60 mph goes (duh!) 60 miles each hour. (And a genset at 1800 rpm is running at about the same rpm as a bus at 60 mph) If it runs for 3000 hours that would amount to 180,000 miles on the bus. Do you want to buy a genset with that many "miles"?

Food for thought!!!

Kabota's can get 30,000 hrs on them if you look after them.

My Onan 12.5kw Quiet Diesel with 2700 hrs cost me $2700. Low hours for this sort of genset, but higher than one from an RV. It was from a Hospital trailer and they were upgrading the imaging machines and needed more Kw. It was delivered for the same price as the guy was luckily passing by my house. Had no remote start but the Onan one is not a bankrupter. Runs beautifully and very quiet too.

We used a Kwikee slideout kit and made a tray with a partial enclosed base and expanded mesh set so that dirt will have a harder time being thrown up into the cooling ducts as it is position behind a rear wheel (dual). There will be a mudflap too.

Central Maine Diesel sells a brand new 10kw, 4cyl Kubota with remote starter panel for $5799.00 with free delivery. I recently purchased my 8kw, Isuzu Diesel unit for $4650.00, had no problems with the company. Purchase was made from their website (www.generatorsales.com). Had the unit within two weeks. I am certainly not advertising for the company, but they do have the largest selection of generators I've seen on any website, all with pricing and options....

I also got a 10k Kubota from Central Maine Diesel last year, paid $5k delivered...
the generator end (1/2 the value of the unit)is a "no name" but I have had no troubles.

I make no recomendations of them, but I am happy...
Peter

PS: I shopped like hell, not many folks out there are both responsive and price competitive.
