I plan on replacing the rims i've got (22") with 22.5 Question How can I tell what type of rims I have now? Do I need to stay with the same? I would like to find Alcoas that would work. Do I need to know if they are stud piloted vs. something else? Will any 10 hole rims work? Thankyou, wheel ignorant s'Coolbusnut mark |

if you have a schoolbus...I'd think they are completely different than 10 hole bud wheels... 10 hole bud wheels have a big hole for the lug bolts |

22.5 (and 24.5) Budd wheels come hub piloted and stud piloted. The stud piloted wheels have a chamfer around the stud hole and use a tapered seat nut. The hub piloted wheels are flat at the holes and use some type of flat washer under the square faced nut. Obviously there are differences at the hub as well, but the stud hole chamfer is the most obvious characteristic. Jim Stacy |

yeah...but I 'think' the wheels on a school bus are smaller bolts & different pattern, more like a two ton truck |

did they not go to the .5 of an over size so that you cannot use a tire that was ment for a split rim as a tubless tire .--- 10x 20" are spit rim tires ----- 10x 22.5 are tubless tires |

oops I said my existing rims were 22" Actually they are 20 inch. And yes, they are the split ring style. Thats mainly why I want them gone. Also I want to go with tubeless tires. The hole in the center of my wheels are about 8 1/4 inches. The lug bolt holes are tapered ( I looked at my spare) so I think they are 'stud piloted' thanks mark 75 gillig 636D 3208 pusher s'COOLbus |

Mark - Utility Trailer Sales here in Fresno has an ad in the September issue of "The Truck Gazette" for steel "take-offs" and new Alcoas, on sale and quite reasonably priced. I've already tossed the issue, so I can't give you the phone number, but you should be able to pull it up w/ a net search. Be sure to talk to the parts dept, and mention that you heard about it from the trade mag. HTH, RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |

Go to the Hub King website. Look at their page about "Large Vehicle Wheel Checklist" That page answered some of the wheel / rim questions for me. Their website is, http://www.hubking.com/ I'm sure Alcoa has similar information on their site. Jeff |

Bend down and have a look see at one of your wheels. There should be a code of sort stamped on the wheel. Try one of the rear first. That with the tire size should let you go to your local friendly truck tire center and figure out what kind of wheel... ...you have and the weight rating, etc.. However, if your wheels are the older split rim 20" size, then they may be too old for the tire... ...guy to identify. Then try one of the big truck tire manufactures on the net and see if they can identify it for you. They will go... ...to some lengths to make sure their new product goes on a proper wheel. Liability concerns and stuff. Good luck. |

how old of a bus & what kind are we talking about, can you send a picture to someone ? I have a '91 schoolbus for storage, but it has dayton wheels...I still think the bolts are wayyy to small for bud wheels,but...we are all still guessing...take a wheel off & talke it to a truckstop...they will tell you if a bud will fit... |
