Does any one know if there is an expiration date for pictures posted on the internet and if pictures can be removed off the www. by anyone other than the person posting them for all to view?? I have been informed by some that want to see this information with my pictures of my 1973 05 Eagle that is in various stages of conversion but have been removed from the following www.site! (http://www.msnusers.com/7305eagleconversion). I have tried in vain to reach someone from MSN to inform me what has happened to my Eagle site pictures but have been very unsuccessful. This site was made about 8 months ago for everyone to see, I posted it at this BB like this: (EAGLE CONVERSION PICTURES BUT NOT THE PRETTY KIND)to refresh you memeory what site this was if you looked at it. Hopefully someone can shed light on this as this information takes time to prepare for everyone to see as you all know. Thanks ahead of time for your information. Gary. |

Gary, pictures posted on the internet, in general, have no expiry date, nor can they be removed by someone other than the person that has the permission in thier user account to delete photos. Now, I see that you have them hosted (had?) with MSN... The problem here is that MSN in all likelyhood has some requirements about you logging in every-so-often to maintain your account. This is what I believe may have happened. Now, to be perfectly clear, MSN, or anyone who hosts images for you, unless you do it yourself on your own server (such as I do), they can remove them at any time, for any reason, unless you're a paying user and have broken your terms of service agreement. Sorry to hear of your loss; in future it would be helpful to research what requirements your host has to make sure something like this happens again. |

Gary, I would like to say the same thing Derek said, but with different words that might or might not be more clear. Your pictures never were "on the internet", as there is no such thing. Your pictures were on a computer owned or leased by MSN. That computer was set up to respond to requests from other comptuers connected to the internet. The requests are made by the web browser (Netscape, Explorer, etc.) on other peoples computers. The requests used the web address that MSN told you to use. Another computer on the internet called a domain server took that address "www.msnusers.com/7305eagleconversion" and turned it into a set of numbers like the ones that you see next to users names on this forum, which is the physical address of the MSN computer. Armed with this number, your computer and others were able to specifically send a request to the MSN computer and ask it to send over the pictures of your bus. All that happend is that MSN for one reason or another didn't want to do that for you for free anymore. Contrary to popular belief, the internet is not free. It's paid for by folks who own or lease space on "web servers". That's what the computer is called that your images are stored on and which responds to requests to show web pages and/or images. It's all very simple really. Capitalism at it's finest. MSN thougt they could get you to pay for something by giving you something for free. It didn't work, so they took their web server and went elsewhere in search of an easy mark. To get your pictures back "on the internet", you just need to open a new free account with MSN or with some other internet service provider (Earthlink, AOL or the like), every so often and put your pictures back out there. The other more permanent way is to pay one of the many web server companies to host a web site for you. Mine (www.jeffpritchard.com) costs me about $10 a month. I may have just mudied the waters further - hope it helps in some way, jp |

Ace, If you put one post and another post together, logic may bring you to the earlier point that he didn't use or access his "account" with sufficient frequency to prompt MSN to maintain his account active. My first hotmail account lapsed for the same reason. You apparently access your MSN account regularly within the time limits set by MSN. Onward and Upward. Marc Bourget |

WRONG again! There have been times when I failed to access my msn for 6 months at a time and I never received a notice to activate or anything like it. I know of others that have experienced the same thing and thier site still work fine! But as always, I expected nothing different than what you gave! Hey I bet if I posted there was a hurricane coming my way tonight, you all would find a way to argue that too! |

No need to jump down his throat, from my understanding, if someone leaves thier account for, say, 6 months, after (I believe) 3 months it's put up as "available" and all files deleted... However if noone takes the account, it could be logged into years later. |

Thanks, Derek! Glad you always have an answer ACE!, But be careful what you ask for . . , if it wasn't for the entertainment value you provide - that mythical hurricane you mentioned may be wished or prayed for! ROFL Onward and Upward Marc Bourget |
