I would like to know what any of you use for leveling systems on the bus while you are camped. Got any secrets? What's worked for you?
Also has anyone had any experience with the 3M double sided tape to put on a smooth skin?

3M double sided tape to hold the skins on: Hell, the stuff won't even hold pictures on the wall inside the bus, unless u know of a type they make that everyone else has not seen! Stick-a-Flex (a urethane adhesive) or a heavy construction grade urethane adhesive sold in building supply centers seems to be the preference for smooth skinned applications. Works equally well with glass, aluminum, or metal.

I don't have an MCI (Grumman)but the leveling system for parking is basically a bypass system of the auto levelers, since I also wanted the auto for the road. My front utilizes the kneeling system that came with the bus and I only had to add a dpdt switch and a NC solenoid. For the rear, I added a 3 port pilot solenoid valve to each side, a switch up front to activate the valves for the road auto position, and a air-seat valve for inflating and deflating while parked. Many eliminate the auto systems and go with a full manual system with guages. I've tried mine on the road and find that the auto valves do a hell of lot better job at leveling it than I do while rolling along, since my bus is not designed to ride level, but rather w/the front down by about 1" for front axle loading.

The air levelers are a common source of air leaks and many choose to eliminate them. You get a much better leveling job on uneven ground by being able to address any of the four corners rather than trying to twist the rear to get the front level. Without 40 people getting on and off, you will find you don't really need the auto levelers.

With an air gage for each corner you just determine what pressure is needed to return the bus to book spec, and reset it if you have used it. It just takes a minute while you are waiting for full air after startup.

My all manual system is four years old and will sit for 3 months without loosing level. Simple is better.

Auto levelers work off a fixed rod (4-6" long) to activate the levelers to release or add air. Has anyone ever made a remotely adjustable rod to level out the bus manually for parking? Some kind of little motor that could move the leveler rod up and down on i.e. a threaded shaft to bring the needed adjustment? You would need a magnet sensor to return the system to center for driving.

A simple cable set up should work, sort of like shifting an outboard , but with the locking controll on the cable end.

Havent been able to find heavy duty enough stuff yet, although there is marine cables with high loads , the throw is limited to 5 inches.

AS the coach can go up & down further MORE would probably be better.

It would be possable to atatch the cable shorter on the air valve , so less throw would work , but any slop would give indifferent hight setting.

I have a 1973 MCI 7 and would like to have a way to level it. "Eight air bags" Does anybody know what parts I need to accomplish this from the dash? Also, where to get them and how to install Them? Thanks, Lee

Several people have eliminated the leveling valves and control the air bag manually.
Melvin Tucker is one of those folks. He has taken some pictures of his very simple system of seat valves and gages, manifold together to create an attractive unit. It is the system I will use when I get to that point.

Mallie,

I went to that page, but none of the photos were there. You might want to check if you have the jpegs in the right subdirectory, or if it can load with embedded spaces in the file names.

Hi Mallie,

Pics still aren't loading as of 7:40pm 9/9. I took the liberty of looking at your source code. . . Try eliminating the spaces in the file names. I tried to access the pics directly and still got a 404 error. I was, however, able to access them by replacing each space with %20. For example the link:

http://www.cwis.net/~mallie/leveling%20valve%201.jpg

The above link will work, while one with spaces won't.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks Scott,, The smarter I get, the dummer I act,, I know the spaces were not allowed, just did not catch it. The program added the %20, and I was trying to figure why?? OH well. Thanks again.
It should be fixed now.
