I am still contemplating on removing the bus air/heat unit on my Gillig Phantom to make room to install my 8kw diesel generator. The air/heat unit is in the compartment above the engine. If I read the manual correctly I will still have driver area heat even after removing the unit. Is this a good idea or should I maintain the unit and look for another place for the generator. How many of you have discarded the original air and or heat? Bob |

The Phantom is the first and only bus I've had. Couldn't even tell ya what a 4905 is, other than one more than a 4906.. |

I have kept the original air and heat - they work, and work well. After I get the hydronic heat put in and roof airs, I may consider taking the bus heat and air out, but not before. If a geta huge prospective repari bill I may consider removing them sooner, but since I seem to have the space, they stay in for now. |

Marc, Sorry, not intended to lord, just trying to describe MHO. There is never enough space! I bet even Will Smith in the latest post wants more space. Jim |

Thanks Jim for showing us your humbleness. My comment really was tongue in cheek, with an added grin and twinkle in my eye. I've always had the impression that your motivation in acquiring the H3 wasn't an attempt to keep up with or impress the "Joneses" Onward and Upward Marc Bourget |

Thanks Marc, Sometimes I think this board would not get so carried away if we could all see the twinkles and grins etc. Most of us do have a good sense of humor. |

I think all of have a good sense of humor. Doubt that there's anybody who hasn't had a good, rolling on the floor, belly laugh. I think it's attitude or insecurity that prevents some from having an open mind with balanced perspective or seeing the twinkles and grins. The real stubborn cases need more and pointed reminders at times, but they're all good people at heart. Onward and Upward Marc Bourget |

I was contemplating removing my factory air in my 4104. It's a huge piece of machinery just behind and below the driver in the belly, center of bus. It works, so leave well enough alone??? Just seems too cumbersome, but what wasn't in 1953. The guy who installed it maintains that it's only good with 1500 RPM and above. I guess this is why the old buses used to run at high rpms while parked and loading passengers. |

My 53 model 4104 A/C unit was driven by a Gasoline Wisconsin engine. Did they later go to a compressor driven by the bus engine? Didn't think the 6-71 could have had enough hp to drive both the bus and the A/C. Richard |
