Does anyone know if there is any kind of rubber roof insulation that can be installed on the out side of the roof for heat and sound insulation. |

Conversion of a GMC RTSII gives you lots of opportunity to look for ideas since you have limited space for frivilties such as insulation and wires, ducts, you know what I mean. A space can be made inside the coach on the ceiling for insualation but whatever you lower from the ceiling beams takes away from the ceiling height. Ceiling height in the RTSII starts at 6'8" and lowers as you add stuff in the ceiling. Foaming is a consideration but the pressed sheet stainless steel support used for the ceiling strength is difficult to fill. Then you contend with the therories that metal conducts heat/cold very very well so you will contend with losses there. I started with a elasticomeric coating on the roof (KoolSeal) to reflect the heat from the roof. (Metal that would be hot to the suns energy would feel cool after KOOLSEAL application and the coach interior will be noticable cooler on hot 90 degree days). The interior I opted to run foam sheets of insulation to cover OVER the formed roof support metal to help control the temperature conduction in the metal. I am also considering the ceiling material as offering some insulating value as well. AS for a rubber that works as an insulation, I did not find one. There is an article about puting foam insulation on the roof of the bus and covering this with sheet aluminum. I would have to look for it but it was an option that has been done. Good luck "Thinking temp transfer through the roof is most costly of the comfort zone" cd |

Good question Steve. My coach also is ceiling height limited. Putting the stuff outside the ceiling makes a lot of sense. They do cap mobile homes with various amounts of rolled foam rubber stuff. My landlords roof is so capped. Maybe someone does it for motorcoaches. If properly done, it even would not look that bad. Maybe someone will help us out here. Thank you. |
