I am going to remove the AC unit on a 4903 that I am converting. Will I still have bus heat when the AC unit is removed?? Also a fellow I know says I should forget about the bus heat and just rely on heating units once I have a generator and the electrical system in place, which could be a while, since I don't have all the money for that just now. What do you guys think?? Thank You. |

Joe, The answer to 'Will I still have bus heat?' depends on how much and what of the HVAC system you remove. It is possible to remove just the air conditioning components. I and, I believe most others, removed the heater core, blowers and ducts as well just leaving the defroster to provide a bit of heat. The advantage of removing it all is the space recovered can well be used to save bay space. I have a 4107 so with 1 less bay this is more of a concern. In my bus I have a 7.5kw generator(on slides), 4ea L16 house batterys(on slides) and the Trace SW2512 in the space the HVAC used to occupy with the condensor portion still available and,in the future, it may be used for part of my AC system. I relocated my starting batterys (on slides) to where the compressor used to be freeing some bay space. I removed all the ducting inside and patched all the holes in the floors and bulkheads. I've installed a Webasto, engine heat exchanger, domestic hot water heat exchanger, and 6 fan heat exchangers to heat the interior and hot water. Regards Jerry |

The bus heat was to dehumidify with the huge factory air cond working. We tossed the unit to use the space better and kept the drivers heat . This was augmented with a 40,000 btu "box heater" that is located a few rows back. Works great on the road , as the fwd area has two temp controlls , drivers and pax, and even in zero weather the un heated far rear only cools to 50 or so , which is nothing to heat with the furnace after stopping. Creative use of the "free" space for HVAC & other camper requirements can allow the bays to remain totally empty. Works for me, FAST FRED |
