I have a 6v71 with a Vh-9 in a 4517 transit. Some questions?

1. When shifting out of neutral to forward or reverse should the engine slow from neutral idle speed?

2. If the engine should slow, what electrical or mechanical mechanism causes the idle to drop. Right now I have an air govenor switch with two wires. It is hard to tell where these wires should go?

Thanks in advance.

buy the service manual for your coach....thats the first step.... with it you'll have wiring diagrams and schematics....as far as idling rpm is comcerned, my 671 in a tdh5105 need to have a curb idle of 350 rpm to make the vh allison tranny shift right..aything faster makes gears grind...

thanks, we have the manual,it just seems confusing related to retarding the rpm when attempting to shift.

Thanks
