i just replaced a booster pump on 4106. bought it salvage from luke. ok , i rebuilt pump part with new seals and gaskets etc. one wire comming out of the motor was frayed right at the exit point, so i had to take the rotor out to get to the wire and soder new length of wire. no big deal .put rotor back in . i checked rotation of pump before i put it in by connecting it to a spare battery. i pretty sure it was rotating the right way, but now installed it is turning the wrong way. viewed from the back of th pump i can see the rotor shaft turning. i guess its not a rotor but an armature is what i mean , anyway , what did i do wrong or how can you change rotation. i already tried switching the wires, still ran the same direction. anybody ? |

If it is a series wound motor, and it most likely is, reversing the leads where they connect to power would make no difference. But what about reversing the field but not the armature or vice versa; could you have done that? If the brush end leads are long enough, it might be possible to do this. You might try to figure out if you put it back together just like it came apart. If there's any way either the brush end or the field wiring could have been reversed, that's likely to be your problem. Good luck. Tom Caffrey PD4106-2576 Suncatcher |

tom, what do you mean reverse the field? the only wires coming out of the motor are the two that connect to the stator.(the stationary part that is secured to the housing) . the armature will only go in one way with the brush end at the rear of the motor. |

Daddy... just for the heck of it try connecting the wires up the opposite of the way they are now... On other words, swap the two wires coming out of the pump so that the wire that went to the positive side of the batt goes to ground and visa versa. Without getting into all the technical aspects... it might be as simple as that to fix. Brian |

I'm thinking hes talking about reversing the barrel of the stator(?) The armature contacts "clock" the armature poles to the stator fields so that they're "timed" to pull in one direction or the other for a universal motor. If you assemble the barrel "backwards" from original, the motor (some motors) spin the opposite direction. |

mark, i think you have it . i must have done that on reassembly. i didn't mark the position of the stator so i bet i put it back 180 degrees off.thankyou |
