For folks that missed Valve Stem post in 01 ,

There IS a difference!

For standard valve cores, those with .206"-36 threads, there are seven models offered by Schrader, available at West Fleet and many other places. There are probably other cores available, but when I collected the information below, my research was aimed in another direction.

Here are the basic descriptions ...

Truck, bus, commercial applications - pressure of 0-200psia/peaks of 300, temperature of -65 to 300*F/peaks of 400*F, opening pressure of 90psig, uses a red teflon collar that seals between the valve core and valve stem. The plunger seat seal is white silicone. Schrader part number 5405V.

General purpose - pressure of 0-200psia/peaks of 300, temperature of -40 to 225*F, opening pressure of 60psig, uses a green teflon collar that seals between the valve core and valve stem. The plunger seat seal is black nitrile. Schrader part number 8500TV.

Hydraulic accumulators - pressure of 0-2000 oiled and 70-2000 dry psig, temperature of 0 to 165*F, opening pressure of 70psig, uses a natural teflon collar that seals between the valve core and valve stem. The plunger seat seal is black nitrile. Schrader part number 9914A.

Snifter valve for water pumps, etc. - pressure of 15-150psig/peaks of 200, temperature of -10 to 165*F/peaks of 250*F, opening pressure of 3psig, uses a natural teflon collar that seals between the valve core and valve stem. The plunger seat seal is red nitrile. Schrader part number 1566TV.

Air conditioning charger valves compatible with R-12, R-22, R-502 - pressure of 0-300psia/peaks of 500, temperature of -20 to 165*F/peaks to “extremes”, opening pressure of 70psig, uses a blue teflon collar that seals between the valve core and valve stem. The plunger seat seal is black neoprene. Schrader part number 7344.

Aircraft tires - pressure of 0-400psia/peaks of 500, temperature of -65 to 350*F/peaks of 500*F, opening pressure of 70psig, uses a natural teflon collar that seals between the valve core and valve stem.. The plunger seat seal is white silicone. Schrader part number 6035.

Aircraft shock strut and hydraulic accumulators - pressure of 0-2000 oiled and 70-2000 dry psig, temperature of 0 to 165*F, opening pressure of 100+psig, uses a molded nitrile collar that seals between the valve core and valve stem. The plunger seat seal is black nitrile. Schrader part number 2300TV.

Well, I'll be damned; that's interesting info. Now, if I could just remember it.
