Here is a picture of a 85 MCI named "Michael" http://www.busforsale.com/michael/index.htm from www.busforsale.com We can use it as an example for our discussion unless you want to post other sites or pictures. It shows it having a walk on roof. Can anyone comment on how the roof would be the same or different than a standard MCI? How is the conversion done so people can walk on the roof? How much weight or people do you think it can handle, cost to convert...anything you think would be helpful in this topic would be helpful. Good idea, bad idea...? Thankyou. |

Mr. Infoseeker-- Do you not understand that your are cross-posting an advertizement from another site on a site that hosts "Bus for Sale" advertizements? that is like sitting down at the counter of your local diner with a value meal from McD's and asking for refills. Gary |

Gary, My thinking is a forum is used to share information. How do I discuss an idea without using some pictures as an example? And since this example is on that site, I used it as a link. And linking to other sites is the fastest way to share these ideas. I'm not trying to hurt anyone, just asking some questions and using links to share. Sorry if you are offended. |

I am not offended, you are violating the rules and common accepted practice of the board. This (Very Valuable) forum is provided to YOU free of charge. You should be old enough to know that nothing is free. The funding of this board is provided by the commercial section of this board, you have already been told this in the "Skylight" thread. Please don't post commercial advertizements in the discussion forum for crying out loud. This is not a difficult concept. Gary |

Gary I just looked through the "getting started" page and didn't see anything about posting links for discussion. http://www.busnut.com/cgi-bin/bbs/discus.cgi I am not advertising anything for sale. Just using the links where the conversions are as a starting point for reference. How else does one share information? Links are what the internet and forums are about. Sharing ideas and info. |

Infoseeker- Although the concept is nice, do you really want your entire entourage stomping on your ceiling? You'll have more to worry about with leaks, since the railings have to be secured through the roof and into some type of reinforced structure. Everytime you penetrate the roof with as much as a screw, you are creating and area for a potential leak. Add the flexing of the roof at those points of penetration by heavy feet, and you'll be sending an rsvp to water. But wait, there's more... What about the added worry of catching a branch or wire on any part of that railing? One yank on any part and the entire length of it will suffer movement (that's aside from the movement of normal travel). The entire railing's mounts would have to be checked for damage and repaired before travel should be permitted to resume. If I might.... can I ask a question? (aww go ahead) Do you already own a bus, or are you looking to buy one? Or, are you looking to buy a conversion? And although it's not up to us in the peanut gallery to dictate or enforce I@n's rules, it really should be noted..... that most of the links you'll find here, do not reflect directly to a bus for sale at some other web site. You'll find that on occasion, a link to some material might also be to a site with buses for sale... |

Infoseeker: I whole-heartedly agree w/ Gary on this. I'm not offended either, but I think you are hedging the rules at best, and certainly violating the spirit of the rules. Why don't you let busforsale tout their own wares instead of your on-going attempts to advertise for them. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to put a deck over the roof. One of the Stick & Staple outfits makes a 36' viewing deck motorhome. R&M fiberglass had a clients so equipped bus at BusnUSA 04 and Sean's Neoplan has a patio on the roof. |

I suspect that if I@N was not travelling, he would already have pulled the post. I suspect also that maybe it was posted at this time knowing that I@N was out of town and I further suspect that it is again blatant advertising against the rules and principles of the board. Richard And I am not afraid to let anyone know who I am!! |

Ian's just arrived at Bussin, it sound's like he's got limited access. Incidently walk-on roofs are a hallmark of the Wanderlodge. Gary |

Yep, and we do not like to see free-loaders try and take advantage of our free board. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever for anyone to post a link(s) like that. The post of a picture would be great to try and explain what he was talking about, but to post two different links to a competitors board? I do not think that was necessary. And we do not want to lose this board because of the actions of a few. Richard |

Back to the topic of walk on roofs. 1. Are the internal stuctural roof posts and joists reinforced to support the addtional weight of the people on the roof? 2. is it a thicker roof skin with stock roof posts and joists? 3. is the walk on roof seperated by an air space and lies above the stock roof by posts and beams or does it lie on top of the stock roof? 4. what makes it capable of supporting the additional weight of people as compared to a stock bus? Thanks all. |

Actually not so thin skinned. this is the second time around for mr Infoseeker. the first time can be chalked up as an honest mistake, but after you've been told in very firm terms, the second time is not a mistep, but rather overtly disregarding the guidelines for this forum. Gary |

Wanderlodges have a layer of diamond-plate to spread the weight of someone walking on the roof. Mine does not have this (Yet) so my ceiling panels flex quite a bit if I step between the ribs. I step on the ribs. I can only comment on the structure of a Bluebird, which are 100% Steel, and have the strongest roof structure of all the makers. I would think that you could do the same with another brand of bus though. Gary |

The Stick and staple that is available as a viewing unit utilizes all aluminum. Framework is attached outboard at the wall/roof junction. Diamond plate alum. deck. side rails, seating, everything is attached to the deck and all folds down for travel. Don't remember exact spec., but it was either 6 or 8" when stowed for travel. Would be a fairly straighforward operation to hinge and lock-pin side safety rails, bench seating, whatever, to the deck. |

Mr SaleSeeker is more like it... Does anyone actually say things like this? "...We can use it as an example for our discussion unless you want to post other sites or pictures. It shows it having a walk on roof..." I might be inclined to give the benefit of the doubt for the first link, although it is suspect, it is the second link that is over the top blatant. And if this is truly Mr. Infomercial's second infraction, it would bother me not at all if Ian gave a heave ho to Mr. InfoSucker. Brian |

Of course! Just the other day I said nearly those exact words to a bystander while posting Stop & Shop's sales fliers on WalMart's Food Store lobby bulletin board. It's quite common, actually. Seriously, I guess we'll just have to see what the umpire calls it. I suppose I could naively say it was a simple doing with no ulterior motive. Display a picture and give copyright credit to whatever the source was.. Normally, not a very big issue.. I hate having to unsnarl my underwear, don't you? |
