Fired up my 1976 MCI 8 today after sitting about 3 weeks. Normally it needs to hit 90 pounds air pressure for the buzzer to shut off and the brake to release. But today when it hit 89 pounds, the engine stalled and died, and wouldn't restart. After letting it sit for a while, it fired right back up, and again died at 89 pounds. A third try had the same results. The bus starts fine, just stalls out at 89 pounds pressure. If anyone has any ideas, please e-mail me at gypsyjrnl@aol.com. Thanks for any help.

It sounds like the engine shut down is being activated by a safety switch and when you hit 89 lbs it is the right amount of air to feed the shut down clyinder on the governor. You need to figure out why the shut down is being activated-- check your engine safety shut down senders, or pehaps the start-up override is not working. I would have to see a manual as I am not familiar with your particular system.

I have seen systems that allow start and run with the master switch off but is a "start from the rear feature". The way the system operates is it starts and then automatically shuts off when air pressure gets built up to a pre-determined set point. I believe the systems were designed with air start in mind so you would have enough air for a re-start. You may have a faulty relay that is causing this system to be active even when you are starting from the front and with the master switch on. Just my two cents and I hope it leads to a solution.

Nick, Did you ever determine the solution to your problem?
