Many moons ago somebody (I believe it was Steve Fessenden) posted that he had bought some electric door lock actuaters and was going to install them to lock his bay doors. I'm now considering the same thing on my 4106.

So, have you, Steve, or anyone else actually done this, and tell me about the results if you did.

I simply lifted up the closing handles and cut a slot in them.

An eye bolt installed beneath in the door pokes thru the slot enough so a set of Master keyed alike locks can be used.

"Locks ONLY keep out an honest man" so a 3/8 eyebolt is enough to discourage most amateurs , and not too much damage will need repairing should a THIEF wish to look into a usually completly empty bay.

Works for me,

I never did it. I still have the locks. My current bus has key locks on all doors and that is enough.

Hi John:
I know that someone has given you some bad info!!!

The fact of the matter is that if anyone buys a NEW, MCI with entrance and baggage door locks, they have their own company key code!!!!

We store over 100 MCI's on our lot for numerous companies and have keys for many of them, and I can tell you for a fact, that if one is missing a key, we can go through all of the key boxes we have (segregated by bus model), and will not find a key to start it!!!

I hopes this puts this rumor to rest???

We have a lock supplier, with our own codes, for any locks we supply to customers, or install on their buses in our shop.

I hope this HELPS!!!

Happy & SAFE Bussin" to ALL!!!

I keep confusing my lawn tractor key with the Prevost ignition key ... really !!! They look very similar. You'd think at least a big bus ignition key would be a tad more impressive. Then Prevost uses Ford keys for the bay locks. Go figure !!!

My 81 MCI-9 uses Ford key/tumbler combination for the bay doors, entry and under the driver access.

Neat system uses a 1/4" square stock to lock the handle. It's professionally done. I'm not sure that International Bus Parts would offer this setup.

Well Luke...

I have a 1979 MC9. The ignition key is also the door bolt key.

I've had two different MCI owners take a peek at my MC9
while I was away. Both gained access using their own keys
in my door.

But thank you for the enlightenment regarding the newer coaches.

John -

Why not pull the lock cylinders out and have a locksmith rekey them for you. Fairly simple procedure, and not that expensive if you just bring in the cylinder assemblies.

FWIW,

Yessir! I plan to do that. I was trying to decide between changing
out the entire lock (going to a RV type door latch system as well
described on this board), or simply changing the tumbler/key. After
the second "intrusion", I'll have to do what's fastest... the tumbler.

Most all of the small RV bay lock keys will open things like the gas
station pump doors and compartments, other RV compartments,
and assorted other nifty types of compartments. It should be
understood, that those "other keys" will open the RV compartments
as well.

Our 92 H3 has TWO keys.... one for the ignition ONLY and ONE for all other doors being entrance and bay doors!
Both are different in looks and design and niether of them will work on my friends H3 nor will his work on mine!

A lot of the commercial bus lines like to keep things simple.
Making one key fit all buses' ignitions and doors, simplifies
the changing of drivers at the various stops and garages.

The buses I drove way back when (sound of random harp strings)
didn't have keys at all, to start the bus.
