We have located an Eagle (40' w/ 4sp man. trans) not far from us. We are planning to go look at it tomorrow evening. The ad says that the engine is a 318 Detroit Diesel. Hubby says to go online and find out what I can on this engine. Please tell me what you can!

It,s a 8/V71 Detroit Diesel.

Hi
The '318' refers to a Detroit Diesel 8-71N that has N65 injectors and advanced timing. This was a standard configuration for this engine in the many different uses of the engine. The general specs of the engine are V-8, 568 cu.in., mechanical injectors, left or right hand rotation. The Eagle uses right hand engines. Since it was a bus engine, someone has increased it's horsepower to 318 by the injector and timing change. It probably had 265 or ?? before the change.. The actual horsepower is closer to 304 according to the manual.. Good Luck
Phil in Az.
