Hey Guys:

More expert help needed, please...

I'm going through the air system now on my new 4106 and replacing the leaky stuff. My stop cylinder is leaking bad, so I'm calling LUKE to get a new one. As I was pulling it off yesterday, I saw another cylinder directly under it.

Here's a pic worth at least a few hundered of my words...

Anyone know what this one does. Hi Idle maybe? My Fishbowl doesn't have a second cylinder, nor hi-idle, for that matter, and I can't really tell if that lower one pushes on the throttle or the stop lever (or both).

Now, it's not in 'Da Books I have(PD4106 Maint [X-6114]. OR DD Maint. [X-6310] either. Come to think of it, my governor looks a bit different than the one in 'Da Books. Newer/different DD??

Thanks for any light shed...
BB

Brian,

That may be your high idle.

Start it up and check with it on and off.

It's the fast idle limiting cylinder. It limits the engine rpm at high idle - also prevents application of the throttle when in high idle position.

Thx, guys. I figured it had to have something to do with hi-idle. My governor just looks different than 'Da Books. The stop cylinder and lever are in diff. places.

Here's the pic and manual page from X-6114 Sec. 8 Page 5 side-by-side.

Mine's just a different way of achieving the same thing, I guess.

Thanks again,
BB

Brian, as far as I know, that cylinder prevents throttle advance if you step on the treadle. The high idle is set by another cylinder, marked no. 2 in the drawing.

That's why the connecting pipe between the one you're asking about and the one marked no. 2.

For what it's worth.
