I just purchased a 1973 MCI Bus Conversion. It has a lot of free play in the steering. Does the steering box have an adjustable Worm Gear? The front steering components don't seem to have the play just the box. Also, any ideas where I might find a manual for this bus? Thanks, Lee |

Lee, As a former MC7 (now a '9) owner, I know just what you're enjoying. There are minor adjustments that can be made at the steering box, and you can have the gears rebuilt as well. You should also check your radius rod bushings (especially the REAR)for wear. The bottom line though is that this will bring incremental improvements at best. Through the 1983 MC9's the steering simply had miles of play in it. When I bought my MC9 (1979) the second thing I did was to replace the steering with a rebuilt sheppard system that I bought from Luke@USCOACH. Aside from the fluid pump which had to be replaced it works GREAT! Drives like a huge van. I know that Luke is parting out some MC9's. E-mail him and see if he has the newer steering type available. It's the best investment you'll make. Good luck with the '7. It's a great bus. Randy |
