I'm about to put an alternator on for charging my 12 volt house batteries. I like the ease of the GM one wire alternator. I believe it has around 45 amps. How well will this do at charging two batteries? Any better Ideas?

In 2001 I added a Delco-Remy 12V one wire to my 24V GMC 4905A.

It charges the 2 6V deep cycles (in series of course) for all the 12V items.

Has worked great or the past 4 years. Pictures available if you want them, email me and I send attachments

Nampa p/n 13-4011SW, $26.95 in 2001.

If you want a fast charge , and are going to have deep cycle batts for the house , instead of truck starts , the
BEST way is with a smart V regulator.

How large the alt ? probably 140 to 150A .

A heavy duty unit ahould run $150 or so from the truck store, brand new.
Another half hours work by an alt shop will remove the one wire reg and bring out a proper wire you can hook the smart V reg too.

A smart V reg is another $150 to $200 , but with good charging and a simple MONITORING setup , your house batts should go 5 years or more.

Grand batts like Surettes should go 10 - 14 years , if properly used.

I use a one wire GM alt. to charge my house batts. I used a 37 amp alt and at the end of the day my house batts are fully charged for the night. It does not get the batts hot and I use very little water. Works for me.
