I am thinking about building my own hydronic heat exchangers using auto heater cores in a box and pancake fans. Has anyone tried this and would you do it again?

I'm doing something similar. I bought an off-the-shelf bus heater here from Kevin Webb. I got the big 90k BTU model w/ two rads and three fans (to create some zones) for over-the-road heat. I haven't brought it online yet, but will probably pipe it from right where the old bus heater cores came out. The unit fits nicely under my sink.

If I ever do diesel-fired heat, or even use a tankless WH as a boiler, I'll probably need to find an industrial heat exchanger somewhere.

Old or Junk school buses are many in Florida to modified into orange's hydraulic picker hauler.

Heater are equip w/blower in good condition.

Some have two or more heaters in each bus.

Good news is it FREE if you search.
Look for orange's picker hauler builder shop.

While there, look at possible wiper motors to use.

The big fans behind the box heater will still need loads of 12V, and the circ pump will work hard, drinking more DC.

Why not baseboard , with a tiny circ pump and forgoe the noise , space and power draw of all those DC motors?

KISS?
