Well Kydex is a thermoplastic that comes in a whole bunch of colors and various sheet thicknesses. About $70 gets you an entire 4ft x 8ft sheet of .060" thickness. At that thickness you can cut it to shape with any decent quality scissors and then mold it to shape with either the most powerful hairdryer you can find, or a "heat gun" - the latter can set wood on fire if you're not careful so you'd be best off making the edge corner on a separate metal table edge or similar. Once hot it acts like a sheet of rubber, and then hardens again as it cools. People make gun holsters out of the stuff, molding it directly around the piece. You can get it in brown, but it will definately still look "plastic-y". |

they also make a 4" mop board made out of a rubber like material I've had a case of it for 20 years...it's still in the box...but probably unknown condition...looks like maybe 100 feet of it... |

Both Lowes and Home Despot have moulding in the usual wood designs (ogee, etc) made out of some Styrofoam type cra/// err stuff. The say it can be painted or stained, but the piece I tried resisted any oil or water based stain I tried. The moulding does come in white, oak or pine colors... A little heat from a hot air gun aids in forming bends... |

Billy What exactly are you trying to acomplish? how tight of a radius? and is it going to be L shaped? there is a rubber base board and some other trim peices but have to be painted. |

I am trying to put trim around the ceiling radius of my GMC 4108. I need inside corner type 1/2 - 3/4" This covers the shoddy woodworking where the walls and the bus ceiling meet. Has anyome actually tried heating that faom trim at HD? That would work really well. |

You should actualy be able to bend 1/2 inch to match that radius if you are talking about your partition wals where they meet the ceiling. if not get 1/4 inch and glue it together to match your radius. or 1/8 inch if its still too tight of radius. if your walls are not finished yet you canc glu the material and place it where you want it with wax paper behind it to keep it from gluing in place and use screws into wall every couple inches but under trim to hold it in place till glue cures. or you can make a pattern out 3/4 ply wood to match radius and bend glue and clamp to jig to make trim then route to profile you want. |

Yeah. Heat helps. It's only a few bucks for an 8' section, so it's no big loss if/when it breaks. It does snap if bent too far! Watch your eyes.. Try to aim for the cat. |

If you want a boat or nautical look, you can always use a piece of rope! It glues up fairly easy and gives it a finished look without all the fuss! It would be cheap to buy and done in no time. I think it looks really good in the older busses! Ace |

I too have been looking for flexible corner trim. I need something to trim the paneling around the windows on a 4104. That includes some pretty sharp curves of ~5" radius. I've been searching the net for some type of outside corner, say 3/4" x 3/4" that would take the curve. Probably have to be rubber. http://www.mcmaster.com has a variety of trim. a search with google turns up the following: http://www.ultraflexmoulding.com http://www.flextrim.com Either of which should cover about any need you'd have except for the tight corners around the windows. Though I get the impression that it's rather expensive I've emailed them to ask if they have what I need. The rope idea is one I haven't thought of. Not sure it's the look I want. Gonna keep it in mind though! Jason Whitaker 4104 |

Fabric gimp would do also, with some glue..? Why not square corners around the windows? The frame look isn't bad when you add the blinds, shades, or curtains inside it. PVC pipe covered in your favorite material? It bends easy! |

I have seen some pics of the frames around the windows. It doesn't look bad. I'm hoping for a simpler solution. PVC pipe? Who would think of that? How about copper pipe, polish it up nice and go with brass on everything possible in the rest of the bus? Might look real upscale, then again it might look like a boiler room. Jason Whitaker 4104 |

I bent some 3/4" oak cove molding to 6" radius using steam. I built a "steamer" using a piece of radiator hose, a connector/reducer, and a piece of 3" PVC. Use a tea kettle to create the steam. |

Bill, How exactly did you bend the wood. You 'steamed' it then nailed it up while still hot? Or wrap it around a form till it dried and cooled? I've never tried to form wood like this before but the molding that I'm thinking of bending is real small stuff so should be easy. Jason Whitaker 4104 |

soory I didn't get back sooner but I've been away from the board. After steaming, I bent the wood using a form and blocks to hold until dry. I don't know if it's necessary, but I leave it for 24 hours. |
