I've stumbled across a truly cherry '66 4107. Out-of-frame rebuilt 8v71 100k miles ago, still has a 4sp Spicer, whole unit generally looks nice inside and out, Shepard steering retrofit, really slick floor plan, etc. $28k. Only "flaws": 4kw Onan, it's wired for 30amp service and has just one 15k btu rooftop AC but the bus was properly insulated and skinned so it should be OK. And it needs an inverter.

$28k (and about 1500 miles away). One of these "owned by an old diesel mechanic" sorts of things...the guy is almost done converting a 45ft Eagle so the old Buffalo has to go.

Pending a checkout of course(!) does this sound pretty good?

One entire cargo bay is open. Question: how long is that bay (measured lengthwise with the bus)? I realize it's as wide as the bus is.

What I'm thinking here is to use the same sort of big slideout used on the 12kw+ gensets and mount a motorcycle tire rail on it, set up so that the slideout can be run out, the bike driven up "lengthwise" (body of the bike parallel with the body of the bus) and then have a setup where the bike can be leaned over some (up to about 55deg or so), tied down and then slid into the bus sideways. The bike will be just shy of 6.5' long and one source puts the bay length at 7ft? The bike would be under 500lb so a big genset slide should do OK.

I dont see why that will not work. What type of bike you have?
Could you tie down the forks and gain some room and just back it in?
We used to load two motorcycles in the back of my dads suburban used tiedowns to bunch down the forks and tilted the handle bars down. One was a honda 250 dirt bike the other was a yamaha 175 enduro. So I dont see much of a problem to fit in a GMC.

Yeah, tying the forks plus running low mirrors would do it too. Only trick is, the interior bay height is 39" but the door doesn't quite rise as high, you get a 37" "chokepoint" plus of course there's that middle channel at around 34" but as you say, backing it in would solve that.

Bike will be a Buell S1 Lightning, prolly a '98. 56" wheelbase. Overall length in the 6'6" total range.

I dont know about the door hight you say is 37" Mine open to the full bay height of 39"

Brian check again my bay doors do not raise as high as the opening only 37 inches not the full 39. I'm standing at the bus now and checked it again.
Jim with the slide out you will lose some more valuable hight and leaning it over will probably make it higher as one handlebar will now stick up higher. have Roger Bourget build you a slammed bad ass bike that will fit. only 60 thousand or so :-)

Yes, that's a Harley Sportster motor (seriously pumped up).

Eric Buell was basically a renegade Harley engineer, started his own company building "Harley crotch rockets" then Harley bought him out and he now runs Harley's sportbike department.

Anyways. It's short in terms of both length and height, esp. with the stock mirrors gone and folding bar-end mirrors thrown on. Good for sticking in a Buff bay :-).

(The "choppers" are short, but also very long, most of 'em longer than a 4107/9 is wide.)

Sounds like a Nice bus that with a few 'upgrades'
could be very nice. If it was 'properly' insulated one roof air should keep the inside about 15 degrees below the outside.
The answer to your original question is: The bays
are 74" front to back with door hardware reducing the opening to about 72".

Heh. Yeah, my lawyer says if the loot ain't forthcoming by this coming monday he's going to complain to the judge. It's WAY late, the order for the $76k was dated the 10th of last month...

As to the forks, I'm aware of that. I *think* it'll be OK though, it appears that once through the 37" initial opening I can actually let 'em relax all the way, as long as I run low mirrors. It'll clear with about 1/2" to spare!
