I removed the dip stick from my steering pump and it was only about three inches long is this the right length and if it is how full do you fill the steering pump.It is in a mc9

Hello David

Put the oil somewhere onto the bottom half and monitor it. Use an awl and scratch a line.

You don't have to worry about it being precise. The level does go up and down a bit with expansion and contraction.

Be sure that you check it with the operating temp the same each time.

It is the right length and you fill where u removed the stick. 1/4 to 1/2 way up the stick is sufficient.

David, there aren't any indicators on the "dipstick"?

Without further information I'd be worried that the bottom part of the dipstick broke off, especially if the dipstick is on a tube as opposed to the reservoir itself...

MC9's have a sight glass on the resivior to check
the fluid level. The cap on the fill tube is just
a swell plug.

Managed to put four quarts of oil in the steering box she turns on a fourty acre lot now no problem.Thanks for the help
