This campground is near my home, I practically grew up with it. No boat docks but lots of sandy beach a short distance from the campground. This campground is part of a preserve and has a swim area on Lake Michigan as well as a Hotel (Lodge) for those who wish to stay in a motel environment. http://dnr.state.il.us/lands/landmgt/PARKS/R2/ILBEACH.HTM#Camping The camp ground is mostly open (except for some wild grasses) but has some trees in the preserve, has 244 Class A sites (I have see bus conversions here in the N/E section, no problem) road is paved, most sites level or gentle slope Electricity shower access sanitary facilities Reservations during summer a good idea but not manditory Fishing Hiking/bike trails Restaurant at the Lodge The North Point Marina is just 5 miles north Pets allowed but must be leashed This is a nice quiet area, near Gurnee Illinios, home of Gurnee Mills (super mall) and SixFlags Great America (amusement park), up North on 94 at Hwy 50 is the Outlet Mall, Just South of here is a rest area, take frontage road South to another Outlet Mall area. Go East on Hwy 50 to go to Kenosha Wi. Movies, shopping North Sheridan road in Zion Movies, shopping North 94 at hwy 50, go East for movies, restaurants, Go West for KFC, McDonalds, Country Buffet, Wendys A little closer? 41 South to Grand Ave, turn West(right), Ace hardware, BP/Amoco, Walgreens - Further West, Bank of Waukegan, Ichibans(japanese food cooked at your table), McDonalds, Country Buffet, Olive Garden, Outback Steakhouse on frontage road (south at McDonalds) - Further west, (North Side)Gurnee Mills and Many restaurants, steakhouse, seafoods (South Side) Home depot and Menards, Jewel foods, etc, (several mall complexes) If you should happen by, I hope your stay is enjoyable - cd |
