This is not a fancy place but it's quite scenic, extremely clean and very family oriented. It's on the Canadian (Quebec) side of the lake, but not by much... a 10 minute boat ride puts you in the USA. A few minutes further and you're in Newport, VT. The park has a little outside breakfast & burger stand (quite good, actually), beautiful lawns rolling down to the lake and plenty of picnic tables. The facility is small but seldom over-crowded, particularly before June 15 and after August 10. There are plenty of recreation opportunities - fishing, sailing and - of course - swimming and sunbathing. Nearby are many quaint little towns and villages, and uncrowded golf courses galore. I mean there's golf everywhere! And the fishing is usually good too. And if it's not good right there, it's easy to get to where it IS good. If interested, best bet is to check with Cedarville Town Hall ('Hotel De Ville'). The phone number is 819-876--7157. If you like staying right on the border (which is pretty handy), an alternative is Lac Frontiere (Frontier Lake) Campground. Also on a lake (as the name suggests), it has tennis courts and a pool. Not so 'wild' and scenic as Weir Park, but with more amenities. The phone number is 819-876-5505 Both places welcome children and pets, and both are hospitable. Last summer the rates were $30 Canadian, including water and electric. If you're a 'resident,' it's less (but how that's determined, I'm not sure). Enjoy! Nellie Wilson |
