We just returned from a trip through southern Indiana and northern Kentucky, and we were impressed with a county park just north of the little town of Loogootee ( yes that is the correct spelling) Indiana. The place is called "West Boggs Park" and is a county owned and operated facility. The park is located aprox. five (5) miles north of Loogootee on hwy 231. Loogootee is located at the junction of US hwy 50 and state road 231, about 30 miles east of the Illinois state line and about 50 miles south of Bloomington Ind. They have both 50 and 30 amp hookup sites, some with sewer, many many with water and elect. rates were $22.00 with full hookups (50 amp). The park is located among the rolling hills on the shore of a beautiful (manmade lake), swimming beach, hiking trails, boat rental and according to other campers, a great fishing lake. We were impressed with the cleanliness, and the friendliness of all the staff. We will definitely stop there again, and maybe even drive a little out of the way to go there. There is a great Amish restaurant located on the lake front, just outside the park property, serving "down home" food, buffet style, and the home made pies are worth the trip. The restaurant is within walking distance from the camp sites, but you made need a ride back after all that great food. The town of Loogootee has all the services and very friendly atmosphere. They do fill up quickly during the prime seasons, and reservations are recommended, Phone # 812-296-3421 Gus & Colleen |
