During the summer of 2008, our family was treking through Northern Alabama and decided on an unscheduled visit to the Huntsville Space Museum. We rolled in about 11am and our three school aged kids spent several hours enjoying the displays. We had not made specific reservations for anywhere that night and I decided I would checkout the small campground they have at the back of museum lot. I pulled up to the office to find a big "Campground Full" sign in the window. I wasn't surprised, and started jockeying the bus around to leave. A guy noticed me and started motioning to me. Turns out he was the campground manager and came over to tell me he had one space left he could give me. I wasn't expecting much, but then I didn't need much. What I ended up with was a nice level shaded spot with electric and water hook up. (no sewer). There was a small, but clean bathhouse with restrooms and showers. The cost was very reasonable, something like $20 for the night. It was hot, so I was running the A/C the whole time, and I probably saved $20 in generator fuel alone. It was easily the least expensive campground of our two week trip. If you need a no-frills site in Huntsville, I would recommend it. Just be aware space is limited. |
