With a tip from JJ I went to big Lots today and found 12" long small diameter floresent lights today for $3.99 each. not wanting to be a hog I bought all of them but 1 they had 5 my buddy bought the other one or I would have. they are pretty bright and take 8 AA batteries. so there's my backup for my inverter if ever needed and light for my shower so I don't have to hardwire one. I'm gonna hit all the other stores till I have 2 for each bay besides what I have now that I'll use under my cabinets and a couple in the bed room behind my light valance. and a couple for my trailer. |

8 AA batteries sounds like 12 volts to me. You could hard wire them. |

I know but want them independant from my battery system unless I do a small battery bank with the 2 batteries I am using now but replacing next week. |

Ron, install a jack in the light so you can plug it into a 12v source. Rat Shack has a jack that, when you push in the plug, the jack will disconnect the batteries. It looks like this: |

I put one in my shower mounted with included velcro and lights it up nicely also one in closet on velcro, that way can use it as a portable light. put one in electrical bay used included screws and it lights it up nicely. well worth the money |

I stopped by Big Lots and got couple of those lights. They are easy to wire for hard-wired installation. Did one already. Actually, I took a couple of AA battery thickness dowls, attached the wires to them, closed the cover and installed it. Not exactly your master craftsman stuff, but is does work, and it will be easy to change them back if I want to. Thanks |

Ron, Depleted my Big Lots, found 6 of them. Lin: I have a bunch of dc equipment that can use batteries and they are sent with a plastic plug with a pigtail for straight hookup just like the dowel system you did. Cliff 75 4905A 1160 |

"CHEAP" florescent lights may be cheap to purchase but the cheaper they are the poorer they run. Many only state the watts to run the tube , and conviently ignore the extra 200% or 300% loss in a super cheap wild cycle inverter. Simply place your finger (with GREAT CAUTION) on the metal part that holds the inverter, that HEAT is your electric , being wasted big time. The alt energy folks sell efficent bulb inverters but there about $20 or so EACH , plus the bulb housing ect. In many cases the Zenon lights are better as they are bright , efficent and not as hot as halogen. When the price drops enough LED will be the answer . in RV's and homes, soon I hope! FAST FRED |
