Can you cool an engine with just electric fans? Stan |

I guess I missed something since the thread disappeared. I hope some of the busnuts can monitor the test because there is no way my wife will travel in West Texas in the summer. |

BahDahBing.. BahdahBoom.. Well I guess that ends the saga here and now. Drastic and Dramatic. I will probably get thrown off the board (again!) over saying anything at all. In looking at Hayen's website and looking at the specs for their fans they actually show airflow estimates for both free-air and through a radiator in their catalog. However they say up front whether and what models of their fans are applicable for each engine/vehicle. Anything above 360 cubic inches (gas) they say NO WAY and that you should use the stock fan or one of their flex fans. Electric fans (thiers) will not cool a larger engine. Interesting Reading. |

To try and get an idea of actual horsepower my massive Flex-a-lite fan is using, and what kind of airflow it is making at various RPM's, I was totally shocked when I CALLED Flex-a-lite and asked them for some CFM and HP specs or curves at various bsckpressures & RPM's. I got ahold of one of their engineers and he said... ####ahem#### "We never measured any of our fans for airflow, horsepower, or RPM and we don't have ANY data such as you are asking for. All we can tell you is the maximum RPM that you can turn them, how many blades they have, the diameter, and if the pitch is relatively steep or relatively shallow" He further went on to say that they "just make fans of different sizes and it's up to the customer to determine if they will work or not" WOW. This is a BIG fan manufacturer. You'd think they did some testing somewhere along the line but I guess "seat of the pants" rules their company! Hmmmmmmm....... |

Now now. Actually I think the engineering with this application is quite good, considering the motive power source is located between all of those wheels, soosss, when the buff or ox or whatever it is cuts loose..... ....with all of that un nice solid or liquid organic waste matter, (correct enough?) it may/will/should/could harmlessly pass between all of those observed wheels. However.....now upon closer examination (my eyes are going south) I spie some poor desperate soul sitting right in "the line of fire" right behind the power plant. I wonder why he is smiling soossss much? Hummm. |
