Well, got the whole restroom removed from my MC-9, except the tank. Any suggestions and/or hints on the best way to remove that part? I know, I know... a couple of well placed sticks of dynamite... my wife frowned at that suggestion. |

Mark, There are some hidden straps on the tank, keep whittleing away at the cover (i used a sawsall) and you will eventually get it out |

1) Pump the tank full of concrete 2) Drive over speed bumps real fast. Maybe it will fall off and you just keep on driving? : ^ ) Scott |

Haha! Well, I was just about to try your idea, Scott! But after several hours of hard labor, the tank is history. Tedd, thanks for your tip, it was a lifesaver. MR |

Mark, I still have the tank to remove from my MC-8 and I can see 2 straps outside the cover, one on each side, are there any more under the cover to remove? Peter. |

If I remember, there were 4 fastener locations, hidden by the fiberglass covering over the tank. We took a saw-zall, cutting the covering off, then found the more forward bolts. Once removed, it dropped easily. That was blessing to remove it. However ... the concrete filled tank idea (noted above), followed by many potholes is a novel idea!! |

Peter, if the MC-8 tank is mounted the same, those two straps just "cradle" the tank, they are not fastened to it. There is one strap on the front end of the tank and one on the rear end, and they are shaped to wrap around the bottom corners of the tank. But getting to the bolts that hold those straps in place was not an option for me - I couldn't reach some of them without removing engine or a/c parts. I found the easiest way to get the tank out was to remove as much of the fiberglass cover as possible, especially from the "passenger side" of the tank. Cut both straps from the side and bend them out of the way, they bend very easily once cut. You must have the "drop tube" disconnected from the tank in order to manuever the tank out of the opening, at least I did because the bus a/c compressor was in the way. I cut the bolt on the drop tube clamp with my sawzall and pulled the drop tube up through the top. After about 5 minutes of figuring out the best way to rotate the tank so as not to damage any engine or a/c componants, it came right out. Then I had plenty of room to climb in there and remove the bolts that held the straps in place. Once I figured it out it wasn't all that difficult. |

I had the AC unit out of the bus already, which although snug, provided access to unbolt the forward bolts once the fiberglass tank cover was removed. Nonetheless, the project is a knuckle bruising dirty job -- at least it was for me. I once read where the person simply closed off the old toilet, left the tank and hid the whole thing -- rather then take it all out. I could NOT imagine leaving that thing in our coach. Yuk! |

The two straps I have on my tank are one on each side, made of stainless steel and bolt onto an angled bracket as if to pull the tank upward and forward. I am sure I have seen a picture of the "8" tank with a lip to the front and 1 strap on each side, but I didn't know if all the "8"s were the same. I cannot see how there can be other fixings under the cover, but after doing the top end of the rest room, MCI manage to hide all sorts of tricks everywhere. When I get a minute or two, I will give it try and let you all know. Thanks for your responses. Peter. |
