OK, Heres my story.

A buddy of mine was supposed to come over and lift my front cap up on my newly completed framing. Well, his truck broke a hydraulic line and we were looking at a 3-5 day delay.

Being the impatient person that I am , I thought I would go to plan "B"

Plan B:
Lean 8' ladder against front of bus
Put 4' ladder 2' feet in front of that
Put 1-2x12 across the 4' to the 8' rung.
Get under front cap, lift cap up on back and shoulders.
Climb up on 4' ladder, over plank and then up 8'
ladder
Slide cap off of shoulder on framing

Now I know what your thinking! Why the 4' ladder?

During the trial stage it was discovered that the cap hit the bus before the feet could get on the step.

OK, now your asking "what about the cell phone!"

After I slid the cap off my shoulders onto the roof I discovered that I could not get out from under the cap and still keep the cap up there.

Thank goodness for my cell phone, called into the house and after explaining why I was calling from outside, help arrived. Though I must admit I was a little surprised that everyone wanted to see me stuck up under the front cap on the bus.

Oh yes, the cap is on and rivited down.

It helps to be a little "bus nuts"

Clifford,

I should hope someone got a photo of you up there on the ladder. And I hope, if they did, you weren't wearing a kilt!

Pat,
Many of my most interesting ideas are borrowed from the Acme manufacturing company and Wille E. Coyote.

Ian,

I slipped off the roof of my RTS one day and ended up hanging upside down from the ladder by one leg. Had my phone with me but by the time I got to it the ladder fell over and I flopped on the ground. Checked all systems and got up and limped to the house. Bought bungee cords the next day to hold the ladder in place.
Of course the wife said" Why didn't you wait?" these have become the deadliest words that a woman can utter to anything that I can do to injure myself without help.

I know how you feel with being trapped by the cap. Been there with a rear cap of an RTS. Took 4 people to lift it off me. ( 3 hours later.)

Pride in doing it yourself is overrated...
