Thought I’d put my cry for help on both boards.

Need help with my generator compartment insulation. I have 1½ “ black egg crate type foam that is deteriorating and I need to find a replacement foam for it. I’ve heard of the foam that has lead inside of it and was wondering what some of you have used and liked. Also I would like to know where you got the foam you used and any lessons learned. Like did gluing it in work or did stapling it work better?

Thanks for your ideas,

Bill

I bought mine from Dick Wright at Wrico. Its 1" foam, with high density (1 lb per sq ft) polymer sandwiched in the middle. It has ripstop shiny mylar on the side that goes toward the generator so the foam will not absorb any oil or diesel, and can easily be wiped off. Its foam on the backside, and I just used a good foam adhesive to attach it to the plywood. I have only had it on for a year, with not much genset running time, but I am very pleased with it so far.

There is another potential source, and that is a company that sells isolation booths located in south eastern Oregon. I saved the link, but just now when I checked, they seem to have lost their domain name, but you might have luck searching for them. They have a very wide variety of foams and coverings. As I recall they are about the same cost as Wrico, which is pricy. When I was doing my research on it, there was also a firm on the east coast, but due to its weight the the resultant shipping costs, i did not pursue and do not have the name.

Good luck

The 2# per sq ft lead or lead substitute is great and can be had with foam or FG on either side.

Facings are an option. Highest temp would be best as your noisemaker box is probably hotter than most boat engine rooms.

They have a large variety of noise controll , even lead lined carpet underlayment .
