This is one for you old Diesel mechanics. I have a 1966 Eagle 01 with a great running DD 8-V71 engine. Occationally, when I turn off the engine on switch, all electrial systems, gauges, ets shut down as they are supposed to, but the motor keeps happily ticking along. Turning the switch on and off a few times usually cuts it off. This has only happened a few times, but I would like to fix this problem. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance. Doug, Bunnell, Fl. |

I would guess shut down solenoid on governor is sticking in operate position. Usually a good plunger wash with WD40 will free it up if spring is good. Jim Stacy |

I have the same problem occassionally. As Jim says, it sounds like the same problem I get, a sticking shutoff piston. I just jog down the back and manually operate the lever. As Jim suggsets, the WD40 wash should do the trick fine. Peter. |

I should have mentioned it could also be the Skinner valve that controls the shutdown valve. When power is removed from the Skinner valve, it sends air pressure to the shutdown valve to move the rack to zero fuel position. This is why you must have some air pressure up to shut down the engine. Problem should be in that area. Jim Stacy |

Dough I would say that it is the shut down solonoid. I had the same thing happen on my MC8. Your last name is interesting as mine is Bonnell. My wife has found some Bunnell's in the family tree. Do you know any thing about your ancestors You can e-mail me if you are interested. |
