Does anyone have a source in western Canada for used baggage doors, fuel door, and battery door? I am looking for either good take-offs or good condition fluted skins. According to the parts books the MC9 units will fit. Also need a RF rubber fender. I have to replace the front section of the upper RH wall due to heat damage. I have read Dave Galeys book on using steel instead of aluminum and can get 16 gauge primed steel for about half the price of 11 gauge aluminum. I realize the front(steel) and rear(existing aluminum) pieces will have to be separated with a thin film of adhesive, but are there any disadvantages to using steel if it is primed and sealed properly? Thanks for any and all input.... |

As to the aluminum, you should be using a tempered (T-6) sheet, .060 or .062 gauge. 11 gauge is not aluminum and if it were it would be about 1/8" thick. What you need is 1/16" thick. Good luck with the project. Jim |

Thanks for the response Jim. I just went out and measured the existing aluminum on the sidewall and it is .092 thick. I guess someone must have replaced it at some time in the past. I'll check out the price for material as you suggested. |
