This morning's paper says that two more of the injured have died. An interesting comment from one of the survivors is that no attempt was made to put any kind of warning up the road to alert other drivers. He suggested that even someone with a flashlight would have helped. |

Hi Stan I could not see how a silver coach would not show up as it sat accross the hiway , but as it turned out the coach was a fully painted dark grey color. As this accident happened at night, not only was the coach not visible, it also would have blocked out the lights from the previous accident farther down the hiway |

The police are still interviewing witnesses and investigating the circumstances. Certainly there are a lot of things involved. With a bus sitting crossways, the only light visible would be the high center clearance light, considering all the other lights from vehicles in the line up. By that I mean that the truck driver would not see headlights or tail lights in his lane. I would also expect the truck driver was at the end of his work day and probably less alert than ten hours earlier. And yes, a dark grey color would not show up well in his headlights. The bus driver is 50+ years old but no report on number of years of bus driving experinece. I think the bus driver just made a judgement error in trying to turn the bus around without enough room on the pavement. This a large multi faceted bus company. When I bought a MC-5 from them more than twenty years ago they were running 1300 busses. Since then the owner died and the company was sold and I don't know anything about the operation other than seeing the busses on the road. |
