For full coverage? Which insurance company? I'm afraid to talk about my insurance for fear that I'll jinx it. I pay next to nothing for liability only. When my agent gave me the rate, I closed the store and ran a check right down there before they changed thier minds. :-)

I have my m9 insured through here and love it..I've been paying $183 a year for liability only...I am currently in the process of adding comp & collision & Replacement Cost on Personal Effects.

They also have policies for those that are full timing.

Do it your way...

So I guess they didn't make a mistake...$130 per year for liability only. I didn't ask about full coverage. Did you have to provide pics and have inspection forms filled out? Royal Sun Alliance wanted detailed photos and a lengthy inspection form filled out by an inspection station/RV dealer. None of that is really a problem, just something else to deal with. They also would not write liability only like progressive did. Once the bus is completely done, I might switch to full coverage if it's not a big deal.

Ahhh!!...I know I pay WAY TOO MUCH with Progressive at $550 per year with a $500 buck deductable with State minimums with required un-insured motorist...

...with a replacment value (right now) of $6000 bucks. It is a stripped '74 Crown ex-schoolie with myself doing all the conversion work. Licensed in OR as a RV.

They have never seen eather one of my coaches, about 18 or 19 years ago when we converted our MCI-7 and got the Insurence from them we was never asked anything, we called the agent up today and he explaned to my wife that they ( the company ) was trying to weed out the older moterhomes, and I guess that 36 yrs is to old for them. I just hope that we can find some other Insurence Co. It Is like they are gougeing us and we are going to have to like It.

Maybe my crazy mind is playing tricks on me. I seem to remember somewhere that converting can be considered remanfacturing and you can get a new manfacture date. Of course then if you did that you might get charged even more because it would be a 2005 model. Just a thought.

Yep, but the question was what do we do for insurance. I'm not military, but my father was. A lot of people who qualify for USAA don't realize it. They can save a lot of money on insurance (and other things) and get great service, which is why I wanted to point it out.

OK... I'm paying 8-something hundred on my Eagle... and that's with the same outfit that is insuring my home and car. Perhaps it is time to do some shopping around.

Of course, that seems a small price to pay compared to the 8-something hundred I pay PER MONTH on health insurance! It almost makes a guy want to get hurt so he can put some of that investment to work. :P

We called Progressive today. They told us that because our bus isn't totally converted, we have to go under commercial. They gave us a $685 quote for a year. How are you guys getting the lower quotes? Can we get lower rates while we are in the midst of converting?

Thnx

Guy, If your bus is insured as commercial, are you expected (by the insurance company) to have commercial registration and license? Will they still cover a claim if you’re registered as a Motorhome and driving with a non-commercial driver’s license? Better to know ahead of time rather than them weaseling out of a claim due to a technicality.

Seems to me simple enough to get a bus stripped of seats to "install" sufficient essentials (bed, table, dorm fridge, lights, camp stove, port-a-potty, fresh water and a grey water tank ect.) to legitimately qualify as a motorhome. Everything after that is an upgrade.

My insurance agent just wanted to know those things were in the bus and didn’t care whether they worked or were even hooked up.

Worked for me,

"My insurance agent just wanted to know those things were in the bus and didn’t care whether they worked or were even hooked up."

The insurance co just doesnt want to be ripped off by a clown claiming to be converting and ACTUALLY in the charter business.
This HAS happened!!

Seeing the coach gutted is usually enough to assure them its a RV not a comercial bus anymore.

Start pulling stuff!!
