Can anyone tell me if a RH 6v92 can be changed to a LH rotation? If so what do I need to do? |

Yes it can. You literally have to tear it completely down to reverse it, so you might as well rebuilt it in the process. What are you going to install it into? A GM? A Flxible? An RTS? Different manufacturers use different engine tilts to shoehorn them into the engine comparments, you must use the correct pan adapter for the particular coach. Suggest you purchase a 6V92 manual from Detroit before tackling this project yourself. May be the least expensive $100 you'll spend. HTH, RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |

I have most of the stuff to put it in a suburban fishbowl. I have the 6v71 and the 6v92 manuals but they don't say how to reverse rotation or I have over looked that part. I am still collecting parts so haven't got started. My biggest question is are the CAMS & CRANK the same for both RH & LH. The engine was given to me out of a ford 9000 (truck was wreaked) runs good but I am still going to rebuild. I have the correct pan adapter. I have a VS2 trans and was told I had to machine the flywheel housing to make it work for the 92 has a bigger crank seal. The front clutch fan will work form the 6v71 I think the crank snouts are both the same size. |

Trade it to someone that has a whole cradle from a FLX 870 or RTS and get the V-730 with it. Why spend all that time and money to swedge something together that wasn't meant to go together. A VS/2 is just about obsolete. Get a V-730 and you and the engine will be a lot happier. The 6V92TA will do 350 HP.. with only bigger injectors. The standard coach engine is usually rated at 277 HP the way most were ordered with the small injectors. |

I all ways thought you just move the idler gear to the other side and the top end turns the same way but the bottem end turns the other. Or you can turn the block end for end the the crank end is now the fan end and it will be going the other way. Or keep the motor the way it is and swap out the bus . Brian 4905 Oregon |

Brian, Thats kinda what I was thinking just wanted some more input. I am a forklift mechanic on 30,000 pound lumber lifts, but they all cummins. David I am located in southwest VA. FLX & RTS are not easy to come by around here. The reason I am using this motor is it has the big injectors from reliabilt, and the heads are low miles. I have a v730 on a pallet from nimco. I am also looking for flywheel housing for it, but they didn't have one at the time. I don't have the means to handle a whole cradle swap in my driveway. Right now I have more time anyway. |

Hi Dale according to detroit's own books the rotation is changed as Brian stated by changing the location of the idler gear. The book also states the helical angle of the gear teeth is opposite of the right hand gear so they must be swaped with the gear from a left hand engine. I beleive the oil pump is also different however I did not actually read anything about that. The best info source is the people who built the engine you will be able to find books for that engine on the internet easly. Or contacted a detroit dealer. Best of luck Tim |

Thanks Tim, and everyone else for helping me. I have been reading my 6v92 manual and with your help I believe I have enough info to be able to do it. A local parts source says oil pump is different, but it can be done Thanks again all!! Dale |
