I haveing tach problems It was working when I parked it last week and now nothing.
I have a older Stewart Warner tach using a hull effect sender. It has 12v to the sender the ground is good and it have volts comming out of the signal side both in DC or AC I dont know how to check it if its sending the pulses.
If i disconnect the sender wire from the tach and tap it to the sender wire the tack will move up and down so Im guessing its the sender. It just sits on 0 and falls off when there is no power.
With the motor running I geting 12.6 With the motor off switchs on buzzers going Im getting all kinds of high volt readings showing 60 Volts?
I built one of them volt regilators some one posted to keep every thing at 12 volts. Does any one know if that can be the problem or caused a problem? I dont know why I will get high volt reading when the buzzers are going.

Brian,if it turns out that you have to beplace the sender or the gauge now is a real good time to change to an ISSPRO they are from Portland OR. just over the hill from you. they are very good tacks, all of the guys around here have changed out from S W to the isspro tack when my S W went i replaced it with another S W and 2 years later i was still fighting with S W trying to get one to work their new senders just kept flying apart the a fellow in Tuscon that hsd a 4905 like yours told me he had the same trouble and he went to the Isspro and no more trouble. they are a US company and very nice people to deal with ,i have never heard of any trouble with them, also they supply the large truck co. such as freight liner.

Mel,
Thanks I been over to them earler this year they are good people the shop guy repaired my angle drive for my speedo with new parts they had in stock in 5 min for only $20. I will end up going back there Im staying 30 min from them now.
What type of Tach did you end up getting?
Is it a alt driven type? Or driven off the tach drive off the blower?
I would like to use a sender type becouse mine is all ready wired up for it.
I just hate to think mine worked for 45 min and went out even if it was good used one.

Mel: Yes, they are a US company and all components are made in Malaysia and India. I just removed the THIRD 270 degree sweep Oil Pressure guage from them in 1 year. They don't have a clue as to why they fail after a few hundred miles; just send u a complete new setup, at least until the warranty is up. In all fairness, the 270 sweep temp. guage is still working fine. It's back to VDO for me.

Brian i used the tack that is 3500 rpm and the same size as the old one and i use the fly wheel as a pick up for the senser mounted on the bell housing works great. James i am sorry to hear that you are haveing trouble with your gauge but just get ahold of the teck. dept there and they will sure help you as Don is also the owner of the company. as i stated none of us that have isspro tacks have ever had any problem with them.
