The latest trend in high buck Gov boats is to have a really Quiet genset , so they can sneak up on the little fisheys and do an acurate head count. They mount the gen set on a set of soft mounts, which are conected to a metal box frame. The box frame is then mounted to the hull with firmer mounts. The interesting part is EACH corner of the frame are weighted with 10% of the gen sets weight. Yes the frame weighs an extra 40% (plus what its made from) but weight doesnt count for much in a 300ft boat. For a Lawn Tractor genset that only runs 500 -800lbs an extra 400 lbs or so to get really quiet might be worth the effort. Not for me , as my air cooled OHNO on a service slide will never be "Quiet", But for the folks that like the mental masterbation of 'THE BEST!!!" it might be an improvement. Have fun, FAST FRED |

Ah, Yes, The interesting, esoteric world of frequency dynamics. Combined with a dynafocal mount installation, you could probably get away with alot less than 10% dampening weight per corner. Abolute position would also be a factor. With Prof. Pejack's frequency recording equipment, you could probably find out whether 5# cranked to the right is better than 10# straight away from the corner The lateral line on fishies is ALOT more sensitive than the human posterior!
