12 active topics is entirely too low for BNO so to liven things up, what did you enjoy most and the least in doing your conversion? Note: Restroom removal excluded My most: (so far) - electrical & plumbing - satisfaction (& frequent amazement) of overcoming trepidation of certain areas and completing subsystems with quality. (with thoroughness, not fanciness or hi-falutin'ess) My least: Crawling around on my hands & knees working at floor level doing work of all sorts. This should make for lively reading when I return this evening after working inside a 102 degree bus all day... ;) |

The worst: Cleaning out 20+ years of crud, hairballs, skin, dander and filth. (BioHazzard!) The Best: getting the Toilet to Flush ! The Most Scary and Boring: Trying to Pump 100 gallons of diesel into the beast. Boring to stand there for an hour and scary when you see the price! |

Chassis and suspension work was on the top of my list...until I bought the right tools. Now it's almost fun to pull a wheel and replace an airbag. Next in line would have to be re-skinning, or any job that requires more than one person. The job wasn't that bad, but finding help was. Before I bought the bus, everyone was all excited and was eager to help...Until they figured out that there was a bit of work involved. I've converted this bus basically by myself. I've had to make fixtures and jigs to turn two/three man jobs into one man jobs. Ross |

I'm doing mine pretty much by myself too. The worst, though, is not having somewhere to work other than the back yard. My progress is often controlled by the weather. At least I got one of the A/C's installed so it's cool inside. |

It's funny how everyone that "wants" to help conveniently is never around when you finally start to do stuff. And the timing of when you are ready to do stuff always is out of phase with everyone else. It takes longer to explain to someone how to do something than it takes to do it yourself.... If they know how to do something it will probably go wrong or be in the wrong place. Your helper tries to use that $27 drill bit as a crowbar. It breaks, You get upset and its all your fault. |

The Worst: After purchase, finding all of the mechanical problems. The Best: Finishing any project and having it work, the first time. The Worsest: Likely yet to come. |

Most fun; taking the old girl (the bus) out on the monthly exercise trip and rowing thru the gears of the Roadranger pretending I am a truck driver which I am not. Cool! Least fun; when I look at my bank account and realize that I havent't the money to work on the old girl (the bus) this month and I have not done anything to her (the bus) in several months! |

Hehe... Well, since the furthest I am on my "conversion" so far is I've gotten the seats out and cleaned what I can... I'll say this.... The most fun? The first time I got in and started it up and was able to drive it! The least fun? Filling the tank and shelling out the money afterwards. The scariest? Driving it through Dallas on the 635E during rush hour traffic. I'm looking forward to everything else!!! -Mac |

The most enjoyable: Reading that 30 out of 60 people at BNO think you have a great idea.. The worst: Reading at BNO that the other 30 say it's impossible to do. |

The least is taking out the eng. and tranmission after just installing, because the allision shop forgot to drill a hole so the planetary gears could get oil and burnt them up after I paid them for a complete rebuild on a 740. |

A NEW most enjoyable as of just this afternoon... Pourin' a gallon jug of water (after eight hours working in 100+ temps) over my head while sittin' crosslegged in newly installed shower pan whose drain sealant cured just last night. No, please don't try to form a mental picture of this. Running shower water operational tomorrow! |

THE WORST- new to the hobby, when meeting "experienced" bus nuts, not being able to weed out the ones who know what they're talking about from the ones that just give their "opinion" and present it to the novice as the "gospel"-only way to go or youre screwing up and wasting time. It brings discouragement and kills momentum. It's my (or your) bus- Do it like you want to! THE BEST- Trying to be one of the bus nuts that encourage others and offer factual info as "facts" and what I "think" as my opinion. I enjoy sharing my bus and the methods that worked for me. Meeting new friends in the bus commiunity has also been great! I have friends all over the country (and Canada as well)now! Not to be left out, however, was the time 2 years into the project and heard my wife tell a friend about "our" bus instead of "Chuck's bus" That was a real turning point- |

Chuck, you're right about trying to tell between absolute fact & opinion. It sure would be easier if we could rely on some time tested code like this intro: "Now fellers, this is no bull sh_t!" Then we'd know where we stood. (Oops, check the bottom of your boots.) By the way, I cheated on the "wife turning point". I bought one of those fake state license plates (FL) that reads "Sue's Eagle". Why, she was so proud she didn't see the noose! |

Worst Part: After the initial euphoria of "I Have A Bus" starting to see all the little things that I over looked during this enchanted state and the demolition process (busting out some 2000 rivets) Best Part: While sitting on the temporary couch in my raised, restored, insulated shell, testing out the new, just installed, remote controlled a/c's and drinking an ice cold bud with my wife and the kids come in and tell me that I am the coolest Dad for building this bus. And then a second later asking if I will have it completed by our trip on Thursday. Best Part 2: Putting in the last of the 3000 rivets I put back in. Cliff 75 4905A-1160 |

The worst and yet still fun: planning and drawing wiring diagrams, studying prints, and deciding where things will go. Best part: Push start button on generator, hear that puppy come to life, see needle go to 120 volts. Push remote button on TV, "It works". Get me a cold beer and lets sit down and watch a movie!!! 2D... While my experience differs... I can still say it. ;) My FIRST night in my bus (the day I picked her up, actually)... It was 5 degrees below 0! (C)... or roughly 27 degrees F. Glad I bought that coleman 0 degree (F) mummy bag! It was still cold enough for my toes to have lost feeling by morning! -Mac |

Worst Job: Changing radius rod bushings. Most satisfying: Seeing the systems come together with the interior construction. Worst experience: 2 AM series of events initiated by an inside left rear blowout at 45 miles from nearest town. The carcass shredded the lower radiator hose causing a total loss of coolant and a large chunk of same wrecked the grill and radiator on the car following me. That was just a bad dream - the rest was a nightmare: No cheater pipe and the lug nuts would not move, the spare turned out to be flat as well. You don't want to hear the rest of that story. Best experience: My current travel plans from Anchorage to southern Idaho next month for a big family reunion. This time with coach-net emergency service and a cell phone. Wish me luck! tg |

Worst for me is a "Do Over" My worst was the results of using "insulated" paint on the roof , and having to paint the roof again. The best , the Po Boy cruise controll , heel on the top of the throttle and an open road. FAST FRED |

Raising the roof was a great experience I enjoy welding, same with the floor around the driver, when I get back on track(house painting right now)moving to the rear of the bus to finish prep work for rear cap and floor! The thing that I lease enjoyed was tearing out the old ac duct, tons of dirt and crap!http://prevostlemirage.blogspot.com/ |

Muddog.... I expect that the 8V92 is a rebuilt engine. Where did you find it and what does it go for? I don't really have a need for one, but it would nice to know, just in case. I don't live too far from Harrisburg. I'm north 175 miles. |
