After more than twenty years of helping bus nuts with free labor and frequently free parts I guess I knew that eventually someone would scam me. I just didn't expect it from someone posting on a bus conversion bulletin board. I didn't get anything for my $624.00 and the bus coversion community didn't further their knowledge by what was supposed to be a serious test of using electric radiator fans. I sent three emails to Two Dogs in early June asking for the where and when the tests would be done and didn't get a reply. At one time I did consulting work in Texas and I heard the comment "ALL HAT - NO CATTLE". Now I know what they meant. I can still show my face in public even after all the verbal abuse I got. Stan |

Simple James, because Stan wanted to help make it clear to everyone, once and for all, that electric fans wouldn't work, and Two dogs appeared to be stupid enough to mess up his bus trying out his poorly thought out engineering assumptions. The question "Will electric fans work" has been legitimately asked year after year by newbies, and I agree with Stan that it would be great to have an actual experiment to point to, showing them the reality. As it turns out, I'm sure Two Dogs finally figured out how absoultely wrong he was, before he ripped up his bus, but won't publicly admit it on this forum. Instead he keeps up with his bad advice, stupid one liners, and off color humor, and it's sad that Stan lost his money to an obvious lie. At the very least it seems that Two Dogs could apologize and send the fans back to Stan... that would certainly be the gentlemans's way to do it, but I guess a dog is not a gentleman in the first place, let alone a double dog.... ...and yeah Stan, if you'd like $100 towards the loss, email me privately. I'd love to help out. |

Ok, I for one am the type of person who will spend stupid amounts of money and time to try out screwy theories even when a hundred other people have already said you can't get there from here. It's the "rube goldberg" disease. It's the challenge of trying to do stuff you just know probably won't work but you do it anyway. It's the tendancy to not be able to walk through a tool store and leave empty handed. You already have five of those but you buy more anyway. You collect stuff you have no use for, but it was a good deal or free. If 2D figured out what he said he could do just wasn't possible, He's probably trying to figure out a way to escape the mistake or make it a non-mistake. Either way it will take a lot of work even to try the theory and more work to undo the damage. I dunno, I will just wait and see.... |

Im thinking he tryed it and blowed up his motor. I dont know how he can show his face any place after ripping off someone like that and post such crap whan people asks how the test went. There is people that are here to rip us off I just did not think 2d's was one of them but I guess I would lock my doors if he parked next to me. I dont know if electric fans would work but I would at least do the test if some one sent me $600. in fans. My bus runs too cool with the factory fan. My plan would be to have the factory fan but on a clutch to come on when the electrics would not keep up. But I dont know how to get a air clutch to work on a direct drive fan set up. Gary: I agree with your honorable thing to do conclusion concerning TD but I still don't understand what Stan was thinking when he literally "bought into this". I can also understand DrDave's position of spending money on stupid things for myself; but not my money for someone else's stupid things. Afterall, Stan, minus nearly $700 bucks (I presume he paid the UPS bill also, since I doubt TD did), still has no additional proof that it won't work: just a tale about another Texan who will take you for a ride given the opportunity. |

Gary and Niles: Thanks for the offer of money but the only person who owes any money is Two Dogs. He probably tried to send it but was snowed in again. James Maxwell: Bus are expensive toys and Two Dogs has something he can't afford, but he still might have some good ideas and could contribute some knowledge to the hobby. For more than a year he has been advocating electric fans, so I just gave him the opportunity to put his ideas to work. Unfortunately, he turned out to be somewhat unethical and didn't do the test. Needless to say, after Two Dogs called me a liar and full of BS; and called Richard an arsonist, and told Gary he had an ugly wife, I am really trying hard to retain some respect for him. |

Stan: I certainly didn't mean to imply any criticism of you and you certainly owe me no explanation. If that is the way it came across, I apologize. I think I understand your motive in buying the fans and shipping them to him and I suppose it is me who does not relate to doing that, since I personally would not spend a dime to prove anything to anybody, especially someone such as 2 Mongrels. I agree w/ your position of offering the best advise you have and how u arrived at it; but it's up to the receiving party to accept or reject. If some one sent me fans after talking how it should work I would make every effort to do the test and not sell the fans on Ebay. But to take the fans and then post all the BS when people ask him how the test is it going. The bigest problem I have is what he posts about what he did not do all the negitive BS thats comes out in his posts .That puts him on the loser list. I lost all respect for him and would just drive by him if he was broke down on the sholder. 2dogs and what ever other name(s) he posts under just has no class and gives a bad name to busnuts. I remember in the deleted thread Two Dogs how you and one or two of your supporters readily spoke so negatively about engineers and how they supposedly are so out of touch with the real world. It is a shame that the thread was censored because I believe that thread had very good value to the members of this forum in qualifying information and, more to the point, the source of information. To know one's reputation and character is very important in any relationship or exchange and censoring threads is bad for the newer members that might read some ignorant and irresponsible advice and be mislead. No matter what ignorant and irrelavant comment you may spew, two dogs, the fact is that you are ignorant for ignoring the engineering design and application advice. Left to you and your character, you would have never have made a living driving a truck as you would have never designed one that would make it to the road. That you have no concept of the value and contribution of, not just the engineers, but every person responsible for conceiving, designing, crafting, and so on to include driving a truck as you did, is very short sighted. When you speak of driving over the road and have some really good sound advice, I and others listen because you have credibility in something that you obviously have lived and learned. You would be a much bigger man among this group if you would reciprocate and respect other's area of expertise. Try seeing the forest and not just a tree. |

Stan- I didn't see the original thread and have no clue to what transpired as far as any deal you guys worked out. I don't know if that deal was before TD's accident, or after it, either... I have no dog in this fight; it's between you and TD. I just hate to see people jumping all over someone the way they are now, if there's some valid reason things didn't get done as they were originally intended. In my personal opinion, when people don't have all the facts, they oughta' stand behind the accused, until they learn the all the facts. I hate lynch mobs. If the situation were reversed, I'd be behind you.... (now, ain't that a comforting thought) Hey.... TD seems like a straight shooter.. just as you do. JTNG: You seem to be the lone holdout on this jury, and that is ok, however, had u followed this from it's inception, you would realize what the rest of us do: that 2 Mongrels was less than honorable about this entire transaction and continues to be. I could have lined up behind him to a degree (although I was one that realized from the beginning that his plan would not work) had he just asked for more time with a reasonable explanation of why he needed more time. But, to my knowledge, he did not do that. Instead, he got "testy and nasty" when inquiring minds wanted to know his progress. |

I personally think the thread should stay to encourage learning from mistakes. We need to be resposible and expect to be heald responsible for what we say. If we are guessing then we should say we are guessing or say nothing. We also need to be respectful of each other's skills, abilities and contributions. There are plenty of things Two Dogs knows that have value here. This forum is about learning from each other and learning together. Part of that is to allow each other to learn about each other's character. Deleting character revealing threads of any kind is a not a good thing for the quality of the forum content. Leaving these these sorts of threads will let newer members learn of each other's character. Leaving these type of threads will also have the effect of discouraging repeated behaviors as the legacy will already be there in writing. Erase the words and we will repeat the pattern. I say leave the words for all to see then if they are two embarrassing maybe the person will not say them again. |

Okay, honestly I am more than a little amused by John getting his back all hunched up because people are giving Two Dogs some deserved servings of hot steaming bowling shoes to eat. TwoD, the delightful troll we all know and love, has a tendency to open his mouth much wider than he has the right or the knowledge to do. That he has reaped a little of the whirlwind is not surprizing given the rancor in which he made his original electric fan pronouncements. While he quite often is very helpful to the Busnut community... there are several notable occasions where Two Dogs has gone off the deep end with his rantings and given serious offense to a goodly number of people. I really wish he had installed those fans...I'm surprized he didn't... But his cavalier attitude concerning the disposal of the fans leads me to believe that any roasting he gets over this issue is all too well deserved... You know...something has been bothering me about this situation, and I couldn't quite put my finger on it. And I haven't been in the middle, haven't even commented before...and seeing how it turns out I'm not destined to be a bus nut after all though God knows I tried, maybe I'm speaking out of turn. Hell, it might be my last post here and will be if that's what y'all want. But... Well here's the thing. Clearly Stan was right about the fans. The flow numbers TD quoted were for the fans working with unrestricted airflow, not restricted through a radiator. TD has almost certainly figured that out by now. BUT! Am I to understand that Stan paid something over $600 for the joy of seeing a man blow the bejeezus out of a $10,000+ motor? Technically, Stan might be right. Hell, scratch that, he is right. But morally...that stinks to high heaven. You can call TD a blowhard or whatever you want. But demanding the right to chuckle over his blown motor is wrong no matter what and $600ish isn't enough to claim that right nor would any man completely in his right mind WANT such a chuckle. It's bordering on diseased. TD: suggest you ship 'em back to Stan on your dime, ASAP. He can sell 'em on EBay along with this whole cockeyed story and maybe break even or come close. I just can't see how TD "owes" Stan or even this forum his whole powerplant up as some sort of "burnt offering to the Internet bus techie Gods"... |

I maintain that both are forms of rebellion against the largely disgusting mass-market RV biz complete with slick marketing and unbelievably shoddy products...and can learn a lot from each other. It's easier to believe that than somebody paying $600 knowing (correctly) that if installed, somebody's DD would Chernobyl. |

Uhm... well.... I guess that's where we disagree. An electric fan could do the job, but it would take considerable power to do so. There's a more likely component failure with the electric model, than with a total mechanical model. But to the manufacturer, the mechanical model is less expensive to produce, and more likely the reason electric fans are not installed. The fans behind the high powered air conditioners aboard buses, and the fans for the evaporator, are electric. If they can cool the large evaporators and keep them functioning, there's absolutely no reason an electric fan can't keep the diesel cool. Proving the point takes time. I can sympathize with TD, for not having the time right now... But he should make his problems known, or suffer the consequences of peer pressure. I ain't no Don Quixote...... |

JTNG: the technical issue here isn't "electric fans" in general, we agree that SOME size electric fan should work. Scratch that: WILL work. Rather, the issue is that THESE electric fans, the ones Stan paid $600+ for, aren't going to work. They don't have the power. Power is power, no matter what the source (see also A. Einstein). These ain't got it. They can't flow the necessary air through a restriction of this sort (bus radiator). TD confused free-space airflow ratings with restricted-space. Stan knew that. Arright? He knew it. And he was right. So he spent the money knowing what they would do to TD's motor if installed without the mechanical fan and under the "conditions of testing" laid out. And that's what bugs me. Stan knew. TD didn't. TD was ignorant, possibly rude, possibly worse. Bad enough to deserve a fried engine? Ummmm...I don't think so. So the real question is: does TD "owe us" (or Stan or anybody else) a fried motor? Even if you decide he DOES, can we maybe show a bit of compassion here? |

I can't be that cynical, Jim. I believe that Stan provided what he honestly thought was best, and I don't think it matters one iota, what the outcome may indicate. No-one's going to "fry" an engine over this. The fans should work as planned. But I don't think it's practical, since the manufacturer didn't encourage engineering towards it. Let's face it, if there's money to be made in any technology, there will be use of that technology. If it's too costly to install and use, we won't see it in production. I don't know the reasons for TD's absence of reply... But I don't understand the reasons of an attack, either. |

Wait a minute guys- your comments about 2D "doing in his motor" are jumping the gun a bit. In the one and only time you'll ever see me come to two dogs defence, I'm quite sure all that would have happened would be that the engine temp would have risen and 2D would have seen it and pulled over... much prior to the engine burning up... he does have a temp gauge I hope...and he would have had a nice slow long drive home with plenty of time to think about what his big mouth just got him in to. So don't go dissing Stan for having some secret plot or desire to blow up 2D's engine. Well, I guess if 2D is dumb enough to not watch his gauge that may have happened, but it certainly wouldn't be Stan's fault in that case either. And I have absolutely NO COMPASSION for a liar, a big mouth, and a guy who constantly finds it necesary to chime in on virtually every subject simply to give misinformation or totally bad information to people asking genuine questions. Personally, I'd love it if 2D just went back into his doghouse and never posted his again. His posts annoy me as I KNOW they do others, and I'm not afraid to voice that as my opinion. Last, my wife. 2D, you can poke at her all you want and it just makes me chuckle. I know who and what she is, and if you knew her, you'd probably change your attitude very quickly..but then you'd probably be so intimidated by her that you wouldn't get close enough to ever know her. It's interesting to me though, that you think making off color comments about someone you've never known, seen, or talked to would somehow affect me. It doesn't in the least, sorry. Like someone famous recently said, "bring em on"... and then keep making a bigger fool of yourself. I find at least that part of your posting quite entertaining... |

Now...the original thread was pulled, and so I may be mis-remembering specifics. But...my understanding was that to get the fans, TD had to promise to go a certain distance in the blazing hot Texas sun. Correct? If so...then I stand by my comments. This turned into a "let's watch this dude blow his motor" thing and that's...warped, if so. And by "warped" I don't just mean TD's motor... |

Or, we would "watch this dude say that his engine was running hot and that he was wrong about the fans". If he TRIED to keep his word, that would be one thing. I don't think anybody actually expected him to be crazy enough to watch the temp gauge rise higher and higher and keep on driving to keep his end of the deal. The point (to me) is that he didn't even try. He didn't even put forth any effort to test them. BTW, why was the original thread deleted? |

I guess the great thing about BBS is that anyone can post an opinion even with zero knowledge of the subject. Two Dogs was famous for this, and even would give opinions on brakes that were completely wrong. It has taken him a long time to learn that bus systems are not identical to truck systems. In the previous ten posts on this thread, eight are from from two people, on a subject that they admit they know nothing about. The web is a great source of information, but spam is spam whether it is in your email or on a BB. |

EAGLE AT BUS N USA RALLY RUNNING 2 ELECTRIC FANS!! It has a 450hp cummins in it now but the owner said the same fans worked with his 6v92. They are very large electric motors with the fans off a bus A/C condenser. SO if 2dog would made a attempt to try it he would be hero not a zero!!! Brain at the Bus n USA ralley Oregon. |
