David, It depends on what your intended use and budget are. Many use propane RV furnaces, some use electric resistance elements in their AC units, some use a 'Webasto' diesel fired heater, either with or witout a heat exchanger to the engine's coolant, some use heat pumps, and all combinations of these. I'm using a Webasto, with heat exchanger, and heat pumps with a resistance water heater in the Webasto system the later is mostly for 'domestic' hot water but I wired the Webasto so I can run the recirculate pumps and fan heaters without burning fuel. If I'm plugged into 30 amps I don't need to burn fuel till its below 20 outside. With the Webasto I can preheat the engine and / or use the engine's heat while traveling to heat the hot water and the air inside. Regards Jerry 4107 1120 |

Dave- Many motorhomes use a rear heater (like a schoolbus type), that uses the hot water from the engine. Instead of piping the engine's coolant to the back (like a schoolbus), you'll need to pipe it to the front. Hey, the pipe's already run in your bus! Sooo.... you can use regular home type convection radiator assemblies placed strategically inside you rolling home, and tap off the bus's system that's already running from back to front. Add an propane/110v RV type (or 110v home type) hot water heater exclusively for that system, and you can warm the engine and/or keep the bus warm without the engine running. (cheap alternative to a webasto). |
