Soccer Fan Decapitated In Freak Bus Accident

July 5, 2005 2:59 p.m. EST

Hector Duarte Jr. - All Headline News Staff Reporter

Buenos Aires, Argentina (AHN) - Always heed a low clearance warning.

A soccer fan traveling in a double-decker bus gets a little more that fresh air after poking his head out of a ventilation hatch on the roof, as the vehicle was passing under a low clearance bridge.

According to other passengers, the bus' air conditioner was not working. The bus had been chartered by a local soccer team transporting fans and boosters.

I know this guy lost his life in this... but imagine the poor passengers below when the headless body, still pumping blood and spraying everywhere, flopped back down....

Wow. That's a pleasant thought. Thank you very much for that vision. I hope you don't mind that I added "OT" to the subject line.

Geeez!

Graphic Mac, graphic...

Gee (**squirt**), now it's hot (**squirt**), and I'm covered (**squirt**,**gurgle**) in blood... (**twitch**)

Betcha' he thought that sticking his head out of the vent was a bad idea when he saw the bridge.

Tim

P.S. Are you still trying to figure out a way to "auto level" your 60'-'er? I may have figured out a solution for you (email me off board) - Tim

Is there a followup to that story, Mac? My neighbor said he
was looking to get ahead.

It happened here too:

The first Neoplan double-decker I saw was at a bus charter service in North NJ. I was hooked because of the potential to have more floor space for our conversion. A few years later I found one and stopped back there to talk to the Russian born head mechanic/service mgr. to learn more about them. By then they had none and asking why this is the story he told me - I know this is hearsay, but this was one serious dude:

"The company used to charter passengers from New York City to Atlantic City to gamble for the big hotels. Of course after a day at the casino's there were a few that were not feeling much pain, so to speak. The "macho" ones that rode the upper levels used to play chicken on the NJ Garden State Turnpike sticking their heads out of the emergency exits as they came to the bridges built to just clear a 13' 6" truck. Of course a Neoplan double decker is also 13' 6" and there isn't enough room for a bus and a drunken fool's head. After the second decapitation the insurance company said "no more tall buses" and they went to the common U.S. lower buses. The service mgr. was upset because the buses carried more people per mile/per gallon and made the company more money with equal service."

So not only soccer players but the story is drunk Americans (well at least they lived in America)could suffer the same stuipd fate.

:-) Glad I was able to make everyone's day a bit brighter! :-) And Ian... No, I don't mind at all. It's your board.. Do as you see fit! :-)

And Tim, an answer to your question, yes... I'm still wondering how I'm going to do that. But I haven't put much thought into it lately since I'm job hunting. :/

JTNG...

I'm not sure, but I'll bet you could ask someone in the car behind if they ran across anything... :D

Seems like tall buses should not have roof vents that open.
