I still have the rattling noise, so we drained the antifreeze and pulled off the water pump and cover over the cam gear that runs the pump. Then we tried to start the eng for just a coupl of seconds to see if the rattle was still there, but the eng would not start, the air shut down cylinder had the fuel shut off so I had to remover the air line so the cylinder could retract. Then we started the eng and we still have the gear rattle, so we are going to pull the big alt on the other end and ck those gears, I have borrowed a lining tool for replacing the alt, I don't think I have a low water shut down but not sure, so what could the air shut down cylinder problem be, this is a mc8 . |

The solenoid valve that feeds the shut down cylinder is a normally open valve and it must be energized to shut off the air. Check the electrical drawing to trace the circuit. It is a fairly complicated circuit with several interlocks and shutdown switches that control a relay. |
