Hey ya'll! I'm a Slashdot fan, and I know some of you are too... And on there, they ran a story about construction of a 17-foot wind turbine. After looking things over, the same site has more information on smaller turbines. I thought I'd share this information, as I do plan to build smaller turbines for my own use... Seems a cheaper and simpler way to go than the Air-X turbines... But the home made units do lack controllers... Easily made up for with a good charge controller that most should already have though. They've got information on a lot of other things too... I'm sure many of you have already seen the site, but I thought it was very interesting... I'm still reading through the other pages and am getting lots of ideas for "alternate" power for my rig... And home, when I eventually settle somewhere! Cheers! -Mac Wind Turbines - http://www.otherpower.com/otherpower_wind.html OtherPower.Com Homepage - http://www.otherpower.com/otherpowerfront.shtml |

Are these thouse guys who made the turbine out of a volvo front spindle? I always thought that you could do better than what they are doing with pylwood and resin (and their coils aren't nice and neat...). Check out Nuts and Volts Magazine's June issue, they have a computerized coil winder which will get your efficiency up compared to hand-wound coils (better flux/field alignement). Cheers! Tim |

Hi Mac, Yeah, I tried a fan as alternate power for my rig. It ran the bus great, but I had a fundamental problem at the planning stage and, as usual, hindsight was 20/20 vision... darned overpasses. Ian www.busnut.com |
