what would you expect to get out of a the 6v detroit engine in an mc9 miles that is ? what would be best rebuild or purchase a reconditioned from a dealer if necessary?

rebuild...in frame kit ,about 1500.00 ,labor about 3000.00

350k -500k if maintained to specs

My experience is more like 250,000-300,000 miles out of a 92, often less if they have been lugged.

As far as rebuilding goes, it all depends on the condition of your engine, whether it needs an in-frame or a complete out of frame major. An out of frame major or rebuilt exchange can get pricey, plus they better know how to work on Detroit 2-strokes.
