Hello folks, well I got my new air tank (MCI-8)installed,the front left hand side tank. Rested up,hey I'm 65 and the dang thing was stuborn, so I went out and fliped up the switch and then walked to the back of the bus and started the bus, the starter button has a open in it so I have reverted to the rear switch. Bus was running fine and air was up to about 40 lbs when all of a sudden the air guage went to a big fat 0. Tried to shut down the engin but it wouldn't of course. I was able to back the bus up with no air back into the garage however. Rememberd the thread about the other air problem so told wife to go bring up this site so I could reread it, in the mean time I figured I could use the shut off ememgency button and it didn't work harde har har so what else is new. So I decided I would manualy shut off the air and did so, but the bus only slowed down but didn't die, dang I thought can't I kill this thing? Wife came out to the garage screaming dont put your arm in the back of the bus to shut off the fuel. The garage was full of smoke boy was it bad so I took off my shirt and reached in with a pair of long channel locks and got the dang thing shut off. NOW THAT YOU ALL HAVE HAD A GOOD LAUGH, my question is, what would make the bus all of a sudden loose air pressure????? I have even tired putting air in via the air stem at the passenger side door but it doesn't seem to do any good. Thanks for your help hope someone can help me, Randall |

can you hook up an auxillary air compressor to search for leaks? maybe a fitting into an air tank for instance. happy hunting |

All this talk about not being able to stop the engine reminds me of when it happened to me. I was showing (off) the bus the day I got it and didn't realize that there had to be air to shut down. I was getting ready to pop the clutch in gear and stall it. As I got ready to do so, the air built up enough to do it itself. It almost made me glad I had a manual trans! |

Hmm... "pop the clutch"? Ouch. Broken motor mounts, clutch damage, broken axle... all sorts of possibilities...? |

I stalled it when I drove it the first time. It didn't seem to hurt it. I'm sure it's happened before without 'possibilies' occurring. Not knowing that air had to build up, I thought it might be better than a run-away engine. |

As long as it's running normally, it's not a "runaway", and no fear of it damaging itself from overrunning it's governor. Popping the clutch with that much force behind it, does not do the drive-train well; letting it out slowly to stall it is better... May eat up the clutch, but it's better than the sudden jerk of all that horsepower. |

my scenicruiser scared me pretty bad that way. we'd started it, warmed her up, then shut her down... then the guy i bought it from goes out and starts it (this is pre purchase) and, thinking the throttle is stiff, he gets on the pedal hard... the scenicruiser's fast idle solenoid pushes against the throttle linkage... it slipped over the solenoid rod and basically ran it to the governor and held it there... now, i've heard lots of horror stories about runaways, and i still know little about diesels. so i pull the battery cable, since that's a showstopper usually. nothing happens, of course. so then i run around back to pull a fuel filter.. yeah right. the engine compartment is open, and we're in a gravel parking lot. no way can i even get close to it... run around to the other side of the radiator, i figure i'm going to crack the fuel line there... meantime, the seller has discovered the kill switch doesn't work... can't get anywhere near anything i can shut off. now keep in mind that this sounds to me like it's going to wind up till it blows up. then it spins down. he'd turned off fast idle. so after shutdown, you can bet the first thing i fixed was the kill switch. i had thought of putting it in gear and letting out the clutch, but the only way i could see that would be to slip it a bit, run up the gears, then hammer the brakes, but the thought of that is... yeah. good friend of mine told me later that on a boat he was on they shoved pillows in the air intakes... ... after it ate the bath towel. scary stuff that... -dd |

I hate when it eats the towels. |

Man, that thing will walk up a 30% grade at idle. I just can't imagine popping the clutch at full bore and not doing serious damage.... even at idle! Lotta' power there.. |

It was idling (slow idle; no air for fast idle), not running at 'full bore' |
