Hi All I am in search for a muffler for my 1979 8v71 rts non-turbo. I thought it should be easy but its turning out to be harder then I thought. The non-turbo mufflers are different then the turbo ones. The other problem is I would like to find one on the west coast as that the weight of one would kill me in shipping. The bus is running great otherwise, second trip out no problems got a little hot pulling the hills. But the 2 reasons for that is the muffler is blowing hot air under the motor and I was runing slower then normal with a fellow racer who is pulling a 34ft trailer with 3/4 pickup with a lg camper on. As soon as he would hit a hill dropped to 25mph and then really slow down the hills. Thanks guys as always remember get out there and use the bus or lose sight of the finish line. |

In the back of the NAPA truck exhaust catalog, they list dimensions and engine applications..you might check them out. Also, a dealer that sells RIKER mufflers have lists for sizesof muffs in dia, length, inlet and outlet placement and sizes, engine application turbo or not and DBA. ratings.Probably any truck parts dealer will have some heavy duty muffler brand that lists the info you need by size and dimensions, but not by brand of vehicle, unless the RTS muffler is some odd shape. |

Try your local Transit garage, never know what they might still have in stock. Good Luck. Sammy |

Abt. 4 yrs. ago my Turbo Grumman needed one; the outer case rusted thru under the heat shield. Price was $1700 + shipping (Over 2k miles). I went to a local steel fab shop, they cut it open, removed all the baffling which was in good shape, and installed that into a new 20 guage stainless shell, w/new inlet and outlet necks, using the flanges from the old in/out. Cost: $225 |

Found one in Tx inbound via UPS. It has been sitting in Al's garage since replacing the engine in his bus. Looks to be in great shape Thanks Al |
