I recently purchased a PD4104 and I am currently ripping out the old interior for a remodel. Anyway I while I was ripping out the interior I found the hump caused by the air intake by the back window. I like a full view back window and would like to keep it but the "hump" is ugly as sin. What I was wondering is would it cause any problems If I lowered the hole thing closer to the engine. Any help would be appreciated.

i'm sure you could flatten it out a little but the engine requires a huge amount of air to run properly so i wouldn't mess with it, but if it's a must have than i would find a used paper filter housing off a semi (peterbuilt)and install it where the old oil bath filters are now. i was going to do that on mine but they go for $2-300.00 bucks. that would completly flatten out the rear deck. others have done this and there are some pictures but i cant remember where...maybe someone can post a link to it or search the archive.

good luck

I think It needs a little more explaining. I was wondering if I lower the hole setup closer to the engine, keeping the original size and makeup just cutting it out and dropping the whole thing down. With the oil cannisters sitting just above the valve cover. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

if you ever have to change the head or do any rack or injector work you will like the extra room on top of the engine.

I am courious about the full view back window. I have seen a few conversions where the dining area is in the rear and the the full back view would be nice in that case.

I originally had a 4104 many years ago and the window was still there, but the bedroom was in the rear and the window really served little or no purpose and I eventually painted it over.
