sounds like lots of extra maintaince cost. Too bad many buses in the future will have this stuff in them. Imagine trying to do work on your own bus with all this extra crap. Maybe the fuel savings will drive fuel prices down. |

My friend- the ONLY thing that is going to drive fuel prices down is to make Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, the 51st ,52nd, 53rd, and 54th States. ...JJ ( and not necessarily in that order!) |

I wonder what's going to happen to our good friend Jack Conrad (or his replacement) when he makes an EMT run and grabs a door handle to help a trapped worker, and gets a full 340 volts DC? Don't say it can't happen! All of the insulation and fancy automatic disconnects will fail at some point. Think about it! A 3KW battery bank at 340 volts will blow enough high velocity hot steel from a dead short, to kill bystanders at 40 feet. ...JJ (again) |

I wouldn't want to make those nations the next four states. Think of the welfare problems when all the royal families are out of a job. Besides I'd much rather see an end to farm subsidies and have the American farmer grow as much rape seed and corn that they can. We can become self-sufficent for energy if we stop supporting foreign oil and get our domestic oil production and BioD going. (steps off soap box) |

Lets not forget the new ultra-capacitors they are using to augment regen-braking now-days... Maxwell Technologies just released a 430 Farad @ 16VDC Ultra-Capacitor, that has a short circuit current of 5KAmps! This could kill you with just a residual charge... Personally though, I'm all for getting 13-16 MPG in a 40-footer, especially if I don't reduce the size of the tank (125 Gallons * 13MPG = ~1,600 Miles/tank, bout doulbe what I'm at now...) Reducing usage doesn't actually lower price, in fact studies have been done that prove it increases consumption in other areas (autos for example...) Cheers! Tim |
