Howdy fellow bus fans

I jsut got a bus with what I thought was a DT466. the district told me it was, it looks like one, it has a turbo, it's blue, and runs great.

But I need a radiator for it......(anybody got one for sale?) so when I called the Int'l dealer, he had me read the last 8 digits of the VIN, and he said it was a DT360....?

Anyone know how to tell, or what the differences are in the engnes? the guy who answered the phone didnt even know the cubic inches of the engine. all he knew was that it was probably 190 hp. It is in a small bus, only 14,00m lbs, so it runs very strong and accelrates
great.

And while we are on the subject, anybody know about the newer Spicer 5 speeds? this one doesn't really require double clutching, even when downshifting as long as the revs are right. Are newer transmission, even heavy ones, now synchronized? I thoght that was impossible in transmissions that had to handle heavy torque.

Hi Patrick. The DT 360 is a smaller, less powerful and perhaps less durable engine than the proven (and quite old actually) DT 466 which in earlier form has been around for at least 35 years.

Some new larger 5-speed trannys are crash boxes, some are not. Try www.roadranger.com and/or www.spicer.com for some specs on the new trannys.

Usually, but not always the model number regardless of manufacture will have the letter "S" somewhere in its description, which means the transmission is synck-kro-nized.

The 360 is an OK engine, from what I have heard--epecially in an application like yours with a fairly low GVWR. CROWNS FOREVER!!! :-) :-)
